I am new to selling on Yahoo. I am enjoying it and love first bid wins! I don't usualy post on the boards but I need to share some info. I had a bidder that I received payment via paypal notification. The "You've got cash" one. I was impressed with the buyer's fast payment and thought nothing of it. I just logged into my Paypal account and no funds from this buyer. In the history, no dollar amount matches, no email addy matches & no name matches. Very strange...I decided to see if this buyer even had a paypal acount by sending a penny to them. Surprise, Suprise but there is no paypal account for the email addy of this buyer. Needless to say I cancelled the penny. What really got me to thinking about checking my paypal account for funds in the first place was that the You've got Cash notice was sent to the email I use for Yahoo~~that email is not my primary email addy with Paypal and my paypal payment notifications don't go to it...I checked this buyers feedback and they have been on a shopping spree in the last month. Their ID is only a month old. They shop paypal auctions only. I have emailed buyer but it has not been long enough for a response yet. The email was calm and civil, leaving room for a true Paypal error~~which I do not believe it is. Please be careful with your paypal payments. I've heard of this before, never thought it would happen to me.

You can receive payment to one of your non-primary addy's at paypal, as long as you did register the addy with PP.

Yes, this is a known scam. People copy the "You've Got Cash!" letter and mail it to people when they win auctions.
ALWAYS check your PayPal or other cash service, like Exchangepath or Yahoo PayDirect or whatever, listing to be sure the e-mails are real and that you do indeed have cash.
Shabbygal, I am glad you caught this one before you sent the merchandise! Good job! Thanks for sharing!

Labbie1~~thanks. Since this user is still out their buying and no one as of yet had caught on to this, I thought a heads up was in order. I have completed too many paypal transactions to count~~in the hundreds. I sell on three sites and have used paypal since January. In all that time I have never had an email notification sent anywhere but to my primary paypal email addy. This is also the first time anyone has tried to scam me. Buyer is not responding to my emails now~~go figure!

I've gotten PayPal payments sent to all alternate addy's, as they were all verified by PayPal. Any addy you have verified will receive PayPal payments, regardless of which one you have as your primary.

mint4u~~I agree with that. This is NOT about where the payment was sent... This is about WHERE paypal NOTIFIED me of the payment BEING SENT. You can have numerous emails tied to one account accepting the payments; however, their is only ONE email addy that PAYPAL uses to communicate to you and that is your primary email addy. All notices of payments "You've Got cash", etc. are sent ONLY to your primary email addy. Buyers can pay you at any of your email addys and the confirmation of thier payment still goes to ONLY your primary email addy. Getting beyond that detail, there is also NO transaction record anywhere in my paypal history log of this payment being received. So needless to say, the email was not sent by Paypal.
