Can we put in our auction listing that if you do not have a cc card and would like to buy this item leave your email address in Q&A section and then you can get back in touch with them. Or they can email you if you have your email address listed in auction desp.

I have been doing this for months. It really cuts down on deadbeats. Most serious folks email and I close the deal while the auction is still running, it they bid the buy price. Put in an email link that does it all with one click:

<a href=mailto:[email protected]?subject=item at yahoo&body=Yahoo id is ... Real name is ...>Click here to email me</a>

replace [email protected] with your email id
replace item at yahoo with the name of the item

yisgood...first let me say that I appreciate your posts here and at the sellerszone...I have learned much from you and VM since returning to selling at Y!

I was wondering about this new CC rule and how it will affect auctions, especially on lower priced items such as craft books, etc. I would say that about half of my customers on any auction site still pay with checks and money orders, so having to register a cc to bid might hurt me somewhat.

I do have an email link in all my auctions, as I don't think it is good to rely on some automated process if a potential bidder has a question for me.

How did you word the info about no cc, so that it is short and simple? I usually use the buy it now feature, so ending early is no biggie. Does your auction then show up as a canceled auction with no bids? And if so, how does that affect my account if I paid to feature it? If I understand correctly, we get half back when a featured auction sells.

Sorry for all the questions...but Y can sometimes be very confusing.

if you sell outside the auction privitely buy email you cant exspect to get any feature credits.

also you wont get no feed back and the sale wont incress your listings any for the next month but you will have sold your Item.

dman3...forgot about the feedback. I should have remembered that right away, having been selling at auctions for a long time now.

As for featured items...that makes sense...no sale through Y...no credit.

As for the monthly listings...there is no way I would ever use 1000 (I think I still have 1005 for this month) listings in one month...so that doesn't really affect me, although I am sure it will affect many others.

Food for thought...thanks.

For my low priced stuff, the CC thingy is making a big difference. Without any prodding whatsoever, I have already had a dozen sales to non CC people who left a question in the auction page wanting to buy without CC.

For each one of those how many do you think just didn't bother?

yisgood:
I tried your shell code and found that if I leave any spaces in the subject wording, the 1st space ends the message. How do you force spaces to appear in your subject message?

I am slowly seeing bidders come back. I think over time, the CC thing won't have that much effect.

I forgot the quotes around the email thing. If you want blanks, you have to put quotes around it as in:

<a href="mailto:[email protected]?subject=your camera at yahoo&body=my yahoo ID is.. my name is..">Click here to email</a>
