Okay, I have been playing with my TOS and EOA. I am going to a kinder, gentler selling technique.

If I took your check (which I do) and said that I would ship right away, but would hold feedback until the check cleared, would that upset you?

Thanks all!

dont hold feed back hostage leave out the feed back part
I have learned to hold off good feed back till the deal is over, one thing I really dislike is giveing the buyer a good feed back when the money gets to me going outa my way to make this as good as it can be and then have the buyer give me a line of complaints most unwarented or a check bounce or what ever.

Nothing worse then a bad check writer getting good feed back then they neg you for trying to get them to make good and even get the charges back.

also if you hold off and they get the feedback after the sale they wil be reminded maybe to leave you feedback as well.

Not in the least. After all, you are shipping before it clears. That is a very nice, although risky, thing to do. You can't please everyone.

Personal check acceptance is a very sticky situation for some buyers. They go off the deep end if you suggest, in any way, that the check clearing is necessary for any event to take place. Just because they know themselves, doesn't mean we do?

I agree with dman3, I no longer post feedback until the transaction is totally completed. That was the way it was set up by all auction sites. You rate AFTER the transaction is completed, not during the middle of it.

dman3 Oh I wasn't thinking of it as a hostage situation. I was thinking more of being able to warn other sellers in case the check didn't clear and the buyer refused to make good on it. Though, I guess that could be viewed as a hostage situation. Hmmm....

I like happy customers if at all possible!

labbie - I state that personal checks are welcome. I do not STATE that I ship when I get them, but that is what I do. I don't want to *invite* a bad check writer to shop my auctions so I would never state it in an auction.

I have had 2 bounced checks out of over 500 and both were made good. Odds like that, I don't think shipping on reciept is all that risky.

Hi VM,

Nice to see you.

I currently state in my TOS and EOA that I may hold the check 10 days to clear, but I rarely do that. I usually ship unless I get a "bad vibe" from the other end.

Never had a check bounce, but I was trying to shorten my TOS--which was beginning to look like Encyclopedia Britannica.

labbie, nice to see you too!

I used to write very nearly what you have (may hold 10 days blah blah) and got to thinking just like you are. I changed to "happy to accept payment by mo or your personal check" and it has worked out fine. Why make a threat you almost never carry out, and OTOH, why promise to ship when you may want to hold because you get a bad vibe?

btw - I get just as many money orders as before, the change in the language had no affect at all, except I feel that I am less bitchy if I see my own auction.

bottom line - promise nothing then deliver everything. People love it - your feedback'll show it.
