Have seen some posts on here about using PM
boxes for other than priority mail.
I think, I would be careful about that.
It may not be against the law but if the PO
police find out (they are much worse than the phone police) you could lose your source of free boxes.
I order my boxes from one P.O. and mail thru
another. They were after my can until the
postmistress at the small P.O. I use came to my rescue.

Didn't make myself clear. Did order by mail.
Had the boxes delivered to my home address.
Shipped out my stuff at another smaller ,less
busy, no lines, near by, P.O.

Priority mail boxes are for Priority mail only! This is posted in many mid to large size Post Offices where the boxes are displayed!
I have received items from UPS in inverted Priority mail boxes with the USPS ink stamp on the inside of the new boxes!
The black ink stamp on the inside is used to identify the boxes in the event they are used for other then priority mail!
Per my local Postmaster the post offices are not even supposed to take them if they see them inverted!
I am sure, since the inside inking of the boxes that in a matter of time the United Parcel service will no longer take them either?
I used to use the ones I receive items in and recycle them for books, but can no longer do that because of the ink stamp!
I even saw a second hand store selling the boxes by the case!
They already had Postal inspectors looking in to it!
