YAHOO is notifying buyers that I initiated a cancellation of their auction, and for information about the cancellation, they are to contact me.

So far, these notices are going to winners who paid and have received their items. They are very upset.

I have e-mailed YAHOO to find out why they sent a notice to my customers that I cancelled a completed auction, but have not received a response.

This is probably something to do with PayDirect notices that I sent at the end of the auction, that the customer did not use.

I will never send another PayDirect Notice to a winner on an auction.

Has anyone had this problem?

I am having the opposite problem! Yahoo keeps sending me e-mail thanking me for participating in "neighborhood watch" for questionable auctions.. tells me the sellers id.. auction number and name.. and tells me the auctions have been cancelled. I have NEVER sent yahoo anything (except to return e-mails telling them they have the wrong person)... of course, they keep sending them. Yesterday I received 11 of these unwanted e-mails! Good luck with Yahoo.. I'm afraid you will need it!

One other possibility I can think of. When the auctions close and go to the closed/sold page they apparently stay there until you actually remove them. I had some in the closed page that had been there since March!

I clicked on one of those closed auctions and the actual auction page came up with the winner's ID, a cancel link, their email addy link and the rate the buyer link. I wanted to get rid of it, so I just clicked the cancel link. This sent an email to the shown winner and they emailed me asking about it. This auction had been over since March!

I discovered to get rid of the closed/sold auction AFTER everything is complete, I have to go to the closed/sold page and DELETE them from THAT page not CANCEL them from the actual auction page.

Is it possible that this is what happened to you? Where you clearing out old auctions?

Sulyn1950:

I thought about what you suggested early on, but since I like to keep my auctions around a LOOONG Time, I never delete or Cancel them - sometimes I find another item similar to the one sold and use the ad again with a new picture.

I think YAHOO holds Closed auctions 6 months before killing them.

That is one of the WONDERFUL things about YAHOO over other auctions - 30 days for Ebay and 60 days for Amazon.

I noted that in the last couple of cancellations of my auctions by YAHOO, notices were also sent to me at the same time they were sent to the customer. This was a change.

At the bottom of the notice where a reason could be given, there was just an "S" in a blank space.

This made me think Pay Direct was the problem. When I originally sent my PayDirect notices to the winner, I added to the space at the bottom after the YAHOO Number they included, the words "S&H includes insurance to avoid risk of loss due to carrier misshipment/damage."

I think the "S" that was on the cancellation notice might be the "S" from S&H.

Who knows???

For those following the saga of the cancelled auctions, today I received a copy of a notice from YAHOO that they sent to a customer of mine.

This notice is incorrect, but is changed to reflect more approximately what is happening.

I did not cancel the request for money, and that is definitely wrong.

The notice now states, "XXXXX(xxxxxxx) has cancelled the request for money sent to you
through Yahoo! PayDirect that contained the following personal message:

Message Title: Yahoo! Auctions (xxxxxxx)
Message: includes S"

Also, for some reason, only a portion of the message I sent is showing up on this notice.

As I stated, I will never send another PayDirect notice at the end of the auction if it results in these notices at some point in the future.

I am getting e-mails from customers that they are confused.

Me too!

The same thing happened to me. I cancelled a payment request I sent to a buyer. The buyer had used Paypal instead. When I cancelled the Paydirect payment request, the buyer got an email notifying them. I don't see any reason for Yahoo to notify them.

Moonmen:

How do you cancel a PayDirect payment request?

I looked for that link, but cannot locate it. I can't imagine that I am doing that without knowing it.

Like you, I would think that YAHOO would only confirm a PayDirect cancellation action to the seller, not the buyer. Why confuse a buyer if they did not use PayDirect and apparently aren't interested.

I think there was a list of Paydirect payment requests sent. I cancelled (deleted) the ones that have paid already. Look under your Paydirect options, you should find your list of requests sent. I hope that helps! Melanie

Thanks, now I know where the cancellation area is.

I would like for the unused notices to disappear, but I am scared to touch the unused notices because I'm sure they will notify the customer, and the customer gets upset.

Yahoo notifed customers that I had cancelled the notices, when I had not cancelled the notices -- so I know what will happen if I do...

It seems to me YAHOO would set a time frame, and if not used, the unusued notices would just expire.

Great idea Watafind! Hopefully Yahoo is listening. Maybe 30 days?
