For some reason, I have never really considered using Yahoo Classifieds. I guess because it seems that it is always so flooded with spam, but I really haven't looked around that much. Does anybody here have any experience with Yahoo Classifieds?

I looked through the Yahoo "classifieds" setup a couple months ago. Thought it was a bit bizarre, possibly trying too hard to be very different from "auction" formats. Items such as live animals were allowed to be sold... and foremost in oddity, it seemed almost to insist that its users be inclined to meet each other face-to-face, after making phone calls to arrange appointments to inspect the goods in question. I seem to recall the function being segregated into small geographical zones, even, so you had to search for items one small area at a time within the US... as though you were looking in the classifieds in a library's archive of city newspapers.
There were warnings about not following through if you got bad vibes from initial phone contact, being sure to tell someone where you were going if you arranged to visit an item seller.
All in all, I found the entire setup a bit creepy, something of a bad idea gone wrong compared to the usual auction execution.

You are best to use their auction with a
minimum bid price and also a buy price.
Items sell real good with that option.

Actually, I have been using "First Bid Wins" on all of my auctions, and it seems to be working very well. And that's what got me thinking about this. Clearly, "First Bid Wins" auctions aren't auctions at all, and are something much closer to classified ads. So it's strange that "First Bid Wins" auctions are so popular, yet Yahoo Classifieds are so unpopular.
I'm wondering if it's the interface, the amount of spam, the regional nature, the quirky products, or just the fact that auctions have better mechanisms to insure a successful transaction?
