don't you just love it when you receive a money order but no info on what's it for (I stated it in my confirmation email).

I'm still trying to match the person's name and address to the individual closed auction's ID 'About me' and so far no match

25 more to go...

Search your old mail sent or your trash for the amount of the check and that will pull up a small pile and you should be able to pick it out unless everything you sell is the same price..
Good luck

This is one reason I require a persons delivery address, when responding to my EOA notice. You can match the postmark, on mailed payments, to the item sold. You can also add the address to your records right away.

Yeah, CharlieOne, except that half the time they never email back to GIVE their name and address, though I ask for it TWICE in my end-of-auction email.

If they sent you a moneyorder through the envelope, at least you should have a name and address of the buyer.

I state the address, as a requirement, in all of my auction descriptions. My EOA notice is in HTML, and the address request stands out because it is a different color. You have to get their attention. Most people do not read everything, on anything, unless it stands out.

I had an auction close right at a month ago. The buyer is international (Japan). I received the payment in a envelope with no return address. The international MO had her name and city BUT no address. I have sent numerous emails from different address in case my primary and her's aren't talking. No response. Left "comments" on the closed auction page AND asked in my FB for her that she please contact me with her shipping address. Still no response. I'm stumped as to what to try next, short of climbing on a plane to Japan!

Can't stress the importance of bidder name/address enough on my confirmations!
Now, I say on TOP of confirmation.

NO shipment will be sent, without emil confirmation from bidder OF NAME/ADD/ITEM#

If you ever wondered about the truthfullness of the "dumbing of America" just become a seller on Yahoo and you will be enlightened. In my email to buyers the first line reads: "Thanks for bidding. Please confirm your bid by sending me an email right now WITH YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS."

This is a life saver when they do, because about 1/2 of the payments I receive in the mail have no other clue as to what the payment is for. It's a real laugher when they take the effort to write a note to stuff in the envelope with the check, which reads like this: "Here's the check for the game."

Of course not all people even answer the email, let alone respond with their address. I got a MO over the weekend that didn't match anything. As a last resort I searched my "waiting for check" folder for the amount of the sale. I didn't get a match there either. So I searched Yahoo's people finder and they were listed in the phone book. So I called them at home to find out what they bid on. It turns out they even got the amount due wrong and sent me too much money.

I took Yisgood's advice and inserted an link to active an email to me after saying I would sell directly if they didn't want to verify a credit card. In setting this up, you can create an automatic subject for the email. Rather than put the name of the auction for each ad which is a lot of work, I used this phrase: "Replace this title with the auction #."

I don't think a single person has actually changed the subject before sending me an email from this link. Here is a typical message:

Subject: Replace this title with the auction #

Body: I want to buy the Nintendo game. I don't have a credit card. Please email me back with shipping costs and your address for the money."

Hey, this is not an isolated occurrance. I get several of these EVERY DAY!

It's no wonder so many people are considering voting for the biggest moron ever to run for President.

I ALWAYS and repeat ALWAYS insist that I get name and address of bidder before I send them MY mailing information or any payment instructions. That eliminates any mystery of what is this payment for.

I used to, just like I used to leave deadbeats negative feedback, and I used to "cancel" non responsive deadbeats from the auctions they bid on. But I've learned these are not the most successful reactions. It's better not to leave bad feedback, and its better not to cancel. Just relist, blacklist and occasionally a payment arrives a month later for that auction. If you haven't sold it already, cancel the auction. If you have, return the payment.

And as for the shipping address, you'll piss off just enough unreasonable but legitimate buyers to kill some good deals. Some people are so paranoid they won't send their address in an email and make a point to tell you the address would be in the payment envelope.

nope no go I couldn't match this name/address on this MO to any of the auctions!

I may have to send it back stating that it did not include a note what's the MO is for...

Why not just deposit it and wait? They will eventually contact you. 2nd best, deposit it and simply snail-mail them a note asking what the check was for.
