Hey that's an interesting article. I espec.
found this paragraph very interesting:"
Unlike eBay or Amazon, Yahoo does not actively monitor its auction site, instead relying on its members to notify it of items that go against its guidelines. Yahoo will cancel auctions only after a committee within it determines that the auction is in clear violation of its rules; Fitzgerald said he is not part of that committee. "

Swastikas were first an Indian symbol and in the Victorian Era, they were prevalent as a good luck symbol, so every swastika is not necessarily related to Hitler or hate. It was very unfortunate that Hitler chose a good luck symbol for his own personal use.
As for KKK robes, well, even our local museum has antique KKK robes on display.
I think people may wish to have antique items like this without being involved in hate crimes or hate organizations.

labbie, good points on all counts. Ebay does NOT monitor its site, or if it does, not enough to make a difference.
And yes, I have some antique needlework books with patterns for swastika designs; they are quite lovely, although I doubt I'll be crocheting any of those pillows or afghans any time soon. I'm far from being a Nazi, in fact my boyfriend is Jewish. And I've never participated in a hate crime...
I think the KKK sux. I think the Nazi mentality sux. I do wish people wouldn't sell those items, and I certainly don't like them or the attitudes that go along with them. But I have to say that it does make me very very nervous when people decide to start blanket-banning this or that, because then it becomes a matter of, where do you draw the line? Is anything that mentions Hitler or the Nazis or the Central Powers something that should be banned? Who makes those decisions?
I had some really nice collectible world war 1 books that I recently sold on Ebay. Some of them were narrated from the point of view of officers in the German Navy. I believe these items have a valid place in the collections of people interested in world history. Denying that terrible things happened isn't going to change the fact that they did. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it and all that.
