Have any of you guys set up the free voice mailbox Yahoo offers? I just noticed that and am thinking it sounds pretty cool!
For those who may not have discovered it yet: If anyone wants to leave a message for you they can call the Yahoo 800 number and leave a message up to 60 seconds long for you. You will be alerted to new messages either online or if you call to check your voice mail.
It might be a nice thing to have if all of a sudden either your email or your customer's email is down for some reason.
I'm also thinking I could give the number to my mom, my dad, my sister...and cool, it would keep their messages UNDER 1 minute!
-edited to add- if you think I ramble on, you should hear my mother!!!! SHEESH!!!!!

I got it all going for all my names. Sign up quick - get a good phone number - they are permanent. I was able to get my area code and all the other digits the same - YAHOO! (thanks again CAgrrl - for the f-a-s-t heads up)
You can check your voice OR your EMAIL by phone, you can check your voice via your computer (email too of course).
You can also get stock quotes, weather, more.
FREE!
I heard an ad for State Farm (brief - 10 seconds maybe if that) when I called. I also saw an ad for Net2phone somewhere in the process, so I suppose that is who is footing the bill (same people giving free domestic ld over messenger)

I was going to use my phone number so it would be a no-brainer. then I thought better of that idea since I do plan to use the voice mail online. Instead I put in my cell phone number. I think I'll sign my boyfriend up for one with his business line as the account #.
I had a feeling there would be ads we had to listen to, but personally I don't feel that's such a big deal. We get advertised to everywhere else....

Yahoo also has a North American Net2Phone module integrated in with its Messenger function. I noticed it for the first time a couple days ago, did the download and configurations, and it seems to work fine. For those who haven't heard of it, if you have a system with speakers & microphone (or headset & mike), and decent processor & memory, this feature puts a dialpad box on your screen from which you can dial ANY continental US number from your PC, free, with the telephone ringing and being used by the party called, and you listening through your speakers and talking into the mike.
Net2Phone itself allows such calls to foreign numbers, too, but charges for them; looks a LOT less than standard foreign long-distance, I noticed 9c / minute to Argentina, for example. Think I saw Yahoo saying they might expand to some sort of foreign calling availability on their system, too... maybe pay with their Wallet function eventually?

Works for Mac OS 8.5 platform, it says. Go to the very first Yahoo site page and click on "Messenger" up at the top left if you have it.

well, I downloaded the MAC version but haven't installed it yet. According to the FAQ there is no voice chat available for the MAC version. My boyfriend says that with our slow dial-up modem voice chat would suck anyway. What do you guys think?

The voice mail thing would be great as your number for Ebay User Info!

labbie- that thought did cross my mind- BUT you have to call 1-800-MY YAHOO to access your account, and I don't think Ebay would go for it if a bunch of us started putting "1-800-MY YAHOO" as our phone number.

Do you think they would figure it out if you just put the numbers in? I am assuming there is an extension after the 800 number then?

My understanding is that in order for anyone to leave you a message, they call 1-800-my yahoo and then they enter your extention number 123-456-7890 (or whatever yours happens to be) & then they can leave their message. Is there a way to enter all that in our Ebay info? If so I'd be all for doing it, but somehow I doubt it.
