I sell quite a few different items all over different listing catagories at Yahoo! Auctions. But one of the most difficult to sell in for me has been the "candles and incense". I have many items listed here and GOOD prices but even though candles sell well in retail stores I don't do well here and the candles are not retail prices!

And without any "young ones" I never have done any toys or children/infant clothes.

Probably the best catagories have been other household items for me both new and used items.

So what's your best selling catagory(es)?

I think you can sell in any category, but there are only two things that are going to sell BRISKLY.

You have to have something truly difficult lay hands one.
It may be old, no longer produced. May also be a collection of things gathered - for example I write in several of my auctions that "..you can go to 1000 yard sales and find these yourself, or you can pay me." It may be a hot toy.

Other than that, it has to be cheap. REAL cheap. 1/2 of retail at least, which means you have to get in it for very very little $.

Trying to sell everyday items for everyday prices is not going to make you much money. It is cheaper and easier to go to Target. No shipping charge and a liberal return policy. That is what you have to compete with. This is why all these online retailers are dying off. I don't think you can sell 'today's " items @ retail online (period).

The shipping and/or Shipping Handling is a killer, along with insurance
And it looks like Priority is going from $3.20 to about $3.90 in January, along with insurance increase
These are the potential killers of online auctions.. especially for low priced-profit items.

VeryModern took the words right outta my mouth!

Anything that is available to you locally that may not be readily available elsewhere is good to sell. For example, if you live in Los Angeles & have access to lotsa good movie memorobilia...or if you live in Hawaii & can easily get your hands on fantastice Hawaiiana...

The other thing I've found is that harried moms like to shop online when the kids are in bed. If you have something that REALLY appeals to them they will buy it even if your price is not dirt-cheap, however, you will sell faster if your price IS dirt-cheap. This applies to everything from clothes for them & their families, to pet & household items, to reading material, to toys for the kids, ETC.

Lastly, anything Britney Spears, INSYNC, or MAriah Carey- but be prepeared to battle deadbeats if that is the direction you take.
