Hi there!

Yes, I'm new! I was wondering what length of auctions do most think work best and why?
Since I started using the 1st Bid Wins option, I decided to also use the 10 day listing and 2 auto resubmits. It seemed to me that if a person can basically buy outright, they are not going to be concerned as to the length of the auction, right?

Something told me that maybe I'd better get some feedback on this from those of you who have been doing this longer. I'll bet dimes to donuts, my thinking could use a bit of a makeover.

I do what you are doing 90% of the time.
The only time I deviate is if I have something very hot that I think may cool (or heat up) dramatically in a week or something. I put those type things up for 2 days because if i don't move it in that time frame, I want to rethink my price. "Short leash" I call it.

Excellent tip, VM.

Another consideration is whether you intend to feature the auction, since featuring is charged on a per day basis, rather than a per auction basis, as it is at Ebay.

I'm just listing more on the 7 days of late, and that way I'm getting the days I want things to end easier...
do like the 10 days if it ends on the right day...Always go the 2 submit, what the hey, make it easier on myself...
I wait for a couple of days and if seeing no hits on a good item, I will go in then and do feature...
Works some of the times and then???

Now days are easy for me, but interested to hear what hours closing work for others...
Of course that's going on the premise that the buyers are pushing time left button first.

I've experimented with different lengths - I use only 1st BID WINS auctions on Yahoo, and it has been my experience that 2 day auctions work best for us, and I never even consider the day it closes (not like eBay where I am VERY careful about the closing day and time).

I tried longer listing days on Yahoo and found we weren't getting the volume of sales we get when we run them on 2 day auctions, and 2 time repost.

2 day auctions with 2 time relist are a pain in the derrière to keep running if you post lots of auctions, but we have found that works the best. We do many redundant items that we run year around, and have found this formula works best for us.

The two day auctions used to make sense when it put you on top the listings, so your thins were perennially "ending soon". This is no longer the case and in fact it is probably detrimental to sales.

According to Yahoo the listing order is now determined by your "sell through percentage".

Common sense tells me that since the listings are jumbled, I have a better chance of someone seeing and buying my widget in 10 days as opposed to 2. If I put my things up for 2 days, I am racking up "no sales" at an alarming clip, devastating my sell through numbers and the effect is that my listings sink in the order presented to the buyer which is precisely what I do not want.
