Hi:
I've had the Gallery for quite some time now.
All of a sudden it doesn't show for me.
And I keep getting a pop-up saying I need to download
Macromedia Flash Player 7'
From:
Macromedia, Inc.
Is this something new you just changed to?
Never had any problems from day one.
Now I need to download players to see the Gallery!

The gallery is a flash application. In this case, it appears that some action on your local system removed macromedia flash. Did you recently reinstall the system or uninstall some software, or perform some action that uninstalled some software, or did some security scans, etc.?
flash is very widespread on websites these days. And most computers have it by now. Our instrumentation shows that very few requests to download flash occur during the day [fractions of a percent]. You can be assured that very few buyers actually see this action based on no flash on their systems.

That is interesting that this tool you ran selected flash as an app to remove.
Flash, by itself, isn't spyware. But it is a programming environment that can be send limited information to remote sites.
Flash is generally considered a low risk because its operating environment is pretty restrictive. Do you recall seeing any message about flash during the execution of the spyware removal program [which program did you install and run?].

Hi:
I'm using spy sweeper.
When I had the trial version there were no problems.
I bought the full version and ran it that's when Gallery quit showing.
When it ran it just came up with a bunch of cookies to get rid of so I did.
Don't remember any particular messages.
It's running now with no trouble.
The only other thing I've done recently is run a Windows Media Player upgrade.

I am not so sure about there being so few people who see that! I too once had macromedia but must have removed it with spyare detection software ..ditto the pc at my mother's house ( I just returned from a visit). WIth the growing concern about spyware, perhaps more than a handful of people see that message...and I know I won't download something that I KNOW is spyware. That may be the reason you have very few requests to download.

neglus, you may be right. But I doubt it.
If some buyer doesn't want to run flash, that is their perogative. However, that does remove a lot of interesting dynamic content from normal internet viewing -- including our gallery. Similarly there are likely plenty of folks out there who would rather not even use the internet to buy on ebay. Such is...
I'm sure there are also some buyers who enjoy the static gallery approach like eBay does. Nice and generic and probably works everywhere. Just like some folks like to drive Yugos. Our offering requires flash as it is a nice dynamic flash application -- that is what this product IS.
Our analysis of image view to gallery view ratio shows that the fraction of users without flash is << 1% -- if I were a customer of Vendio using this service I wouldn't loose too much sleep over the fractional loss of gallery images for this small subset.
[nit: i do enjoy reading the few folks on this board who seem to take joy in highlighting minutia -- somehow thinking this makes them appear better, or us worse. we do tend to filter out the vocal minority for what they are -- and focus on serious issues for widespread impact. i do hope that the vast majority of our paying customers appreciate what we do do well...]
