I placed a shipping markup in my preferences for a percentage and check the radio button to correspond, however, at item entry, it is giving me errors. I am hoping that is because I changed the preferences after a created the item. I haven't tried making an item from scratch yet.

Nonetheless, I can see this being a problem for lazy people like me that just want to add 15% to all my shipping charges across the board...

Help?

Todd.

Hello Todd,

Unfortunately the preferences are only going to apply to the new listings that you create from scratch. Any existing listings will retain their original shipping markup listed, unless you were to edit them after the fact.

I have tried with a new listing, and it still gives me an error. I go through My Account, then to Shipping and Insurance.

Under Shipping Carriers, I have selected:
USPS Priority Mail
UPS Ground
UPS 2nd Day Air
USPS Global Express
UPS Std to Canada
UPS Worldwide Exp.

I figured that these would all be calculated. Sounded awesome to me. Then I decided to try asserting the Shipping Markup labeled Percentage of Shipping Costs (in the Calculated Shipping Options section). That sounded even better. Bigger, heavier things cost more to pack. WOW!!!

(insert neat sound of machine breaking here)

I make a new listing. When I have completed my posting, I get this error:

Input data for tag <Item.ShippingDetails.CalculatedShippingRate.PackagingHandlingCosts> is invalid or missing. Please check API documentation.

Argh! Now, I know that I can fix the error by going to that items Payment & Shipping tab and editing the Shipping to reflect a Fixed markup. I do note that in the Site Specifics tab, I am using "I am specifying costs for eBay Checkout", with the "I use calculated rates" selected. This may be the source of the error, but it does not clearly guide me what I need to do if I am using the Vendio Checkout w/ eBay Redirect.

I think that this has something to do with correctly setting up the Vendio Checkout USING the eBay Redirect. I am still trying to figure it all out. However, it would behoove Vendio to improve this interface to be a little more intuitive in the shipping/handling/insurance area when using these different options.

For instance, having a selection of Vendio Checkout, eBay Checkout, PayPal Checkout, XYZ Checkout, and then a checklist, or a form, or something after each one so that lazy people like me have an easier time setting it up.

Anyhow, just my thoughts. If you know what I can do to fix this problem, let me know.

Todd.

Hello Todd,

Unfortunately you won't be able to use this option with eBay calculated shipping where you are indicating the costs for the eBay checkout as well.

Calculated shipping markup field:
"Enter dollar cost if special values apply to the item, or if you plan to use eBay checkout with the calculated shipping option."

Unfortunately since you would only be able to use this option if you didn't specify the costs for the eBay checkout system, it is probably best to enter a fixed markup for your items instead.

Ok, let me try from this angle, then...

You offer in the Global Preferences an option for me to have a markup calculated as a percentage of the shipping costs, yet I can't use it? This is the text from the box in the item creation that I fill out under Payment & Shipping...

Calculated Shipping Options
These options are only required if you are using calculated shipping.
Ship From Zip Code:
Shipping Markup: $ (leave blank to use settings from Preferences)
(using Preferences setting: 20% of shipping cost)
Enter dollar cost if special values apply to the item, or if you plan to use eBay checkout with the calculated shipping option. Markup for Fixed shipping options should be included in the cost entered in Shipping Carriers, above.

This text is copied directly from the web page...

So, again, do you see how this is confusing? When can I use this option? Why do you offer this AS an option if I can't use it?

If you can tell me WHEN it works, or HOW it works, maybe I could grock the situation, but your reply seems to be of no help to my current situation.

Thanks,

Todd.

Hello Todd,

My apologies if the reply wasn't clear enough. Ill break it down a bit further for you.

When you are on the listing form itself, the field for 'Calculated shipping markup' states:

"Enter dollar cost if special values apply to the item, or if you plan to use eBay checkout with the calculated shipping option."

What that is saying is that if you plan to use the eBay checkout and calculated shipping costs (which you are currently) - then you would need to enter a dollar cost.

This means that you would need to enter a dollar cost Vs leaving it blank so that the Vendio checkout can simply calculate the markup during the checkout process. (aka, enter a fixed amount into this field, do not leave it blank)

This means that you can use this option if you do not 'plan to use eBay checkout with the calculated shipping option.'

To opt out of the eBay checkout, so you can use this option, click to edit your item in question - go to the Site Specifics tab - click to edit the 'checkout' section, then check the box labeled 'I am not specifying shipping costs for eBay checkout. (as outlined in the image below)

Let us know if you have any other questions on this preference.

Regards,
Christopher

Thanks, Christopher!

I guess the confusion I had was that the statement, as you have highlighted in Red, says "without" instead of "with", as it does with that message in a couple of different spots.

One of them actually DID say WITH and not WITHOUT. Odd...

Thanks.

Todd.
