Hi
This started a couple of months ago but I haven't had time to ask about it. Lately my insurance defaults are not going to eBay.
When someone checks out using eBay. Insurance isn't offered or not required for international and when it is offered it is not at the amount I have set. I.e. Domestic-optional $3.50; International-required $4.50. Every thing was fine and then this was happening intermittently and now it is happening all the time.
Have I messed up somewhere? Could this be happening because I have switched to PayPal immeidately and am sending invoices out after auctions from eBay?
Here are some auctions where it has happened... 190145997236, 190146304451, 190146304432 and 190146304421. There has also been a latency in sending the WBN the past couple of days. This has happened with all of the auctions mentioned above.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thank you for your help!

Hello Paula,

Perhaps the confusion is in how the two different sites display the shipping and insurance options.

When you list your international insurance as being required, eBay will actually add it to the total cost of shipping automatically and indicate the following:
"Shipping insurance
Domestic: Optional (based on location and shipping service)
International: Included (in the shipping and handling cost)"

This wmay make it appear as though the buyer has overpaid for shipping and opted out of insurance when they checkout from PayPal - since eBay has lumped the insurance in with the cost of shipping.

Can you check one of the examples above to see if this was the case for these items? (aka, does the payment that came in for the item include what the cost of shipping would be + insurance?)

As for a delay in sending the WBN, we don't see anything right now that would have caused this but we'll certainly watch out for it. How long did it seem to take for the WBN to be shown as sent for those items in post sale/closed, or was it just the copy of the WBN you received that seemed to arrive later?

Regards,
Christopher

Hi Christopher,
I tried to take a screen shot... but I must have done something wrong. So here is a copy of an international payment:
From: [email protected]
Date: 9/4/2007 11:24:03 AM
To: ny-baglady
Subject: Item #190145997486 - Notification of an Instant Payment Received from wcreda Dear ny-baglady,

You have an Instant Payment of $74.45 USD from X.
Payment Details

Purchased From:ny-baglady
Transaction ID:1KV882252P4916642

Item # Item Title Quantity Price Subtotal
190145997486 8 NWT Karen Miller Mother of the Bride or Groom Dress 1 $49.99 USD $49.99 USD

Shipping & Handling via USPS Express Mail International to S0LXX
(includes any seller handling fees) $24.46 USD
Shipping Insurance (not offered): --
Total: $74.45 USD

So according to what you say, $24.46 minus $4.50 for handling and $4.50 insurance= $15.46 when express mail to Canada for a 4 pound package is $28.50. I did send her a paypal invoice but she didn't pay through the paypal invoice. That was for international first class mail... I am so confused!

Here is a copy of one of the invoices I sent. I manually sent it through eBay and the insurance said $1.50. I manually changed it to the $3.50. The others I send had amounts of $1.50 to $2.40 and I have no idea where those numbers are coming from because everything is setup here as $3.50 for domestic insurance...

Hello,

Im sorry, im not quite following all of those details. Are you saying that insurance wasn't paid for on this transaction?

Your item appears to have been marked as paid, and it seems to indicate that insurance was paid for.

Sorry for the confusion, im just not sure what your pointing out with this email conversation that you have copied here.

Regards,
Christopher

Hi again
Ok, My insurance settings in my preferences are Domestic-optional-$3.50 International-required-$4.50.
When I went to send invoices through eBay, in the hopes of getting paid faster, The domestic insurance amount was $1.50 or a little more. The point is that domestic insurance should show up as $3.50.
********************************
Your question to me was:
Can you check one of the examples above to see if this was the case for these items? (aka, does the payment that came in for the item include what the cost of shipping would be + insurance?)
***************************************
No, that was not in the case on the domestic sales. The domestic insurance showed up as Optional but the amount was WRONG. It was $1.50 on one auction and $2.40 on the other auctions. I had to change the amount to $3.50 before sending the invoice and that shouldn't be happening. My preferences are $3.50 and have been since I started using SMIE.
****************************************
At this point forget the international insurance because you explained that to me and you are right. There was just something a little off on the international shipment but I can live with that.
***************************************
Please see if you can figure out what is going on with the domestic insurance. Please.

I hope I made this easier to understand! I sometimes get to detailed oriented and expect folks to read between the lines to understand what I am saying. I am sorry!
Paula

Hello Paula,

Sorry, just one last question. What item number can I use to check for this domestic insurance error specifically?

Hi again
Here is an auction where it happened and I didn't enterfer with it.
#190145997236, Sku mhf-151442-14brw for $29.99. Insurance the buyer paid was what eBay calculated at $2.55. Preferences are $3.50.
I hope this will show you what has been going on.
Thanks
Paula

Hello Paula,

I think I see the issue now.

Previously if you indicated that you were going to ship your items using a calculated method, the listing would fail unless you also provided calculated insurance.

Now the form won't fail if you mismatch the two, but if you specify calculated shipping methods - eBay is going to make the insurance calculated as well, regardless if you specify a fixed insurance rate for use in the Vendio checkout or not.

So in short, it doesn't matter what you list for the cost of insurance, if the shipping method is calculated the insurance will be charged by eBay as a calculated rate as well.

Sorry for the confusion earlier.

Regards,
Christopher
