This small pinch pot speaks to us about our planet.  It is hand built of high fire stone ware, the clay having been worked until small fissures and cracks developed, much like the surface of the earth which fissures to form rift valleys and mountain ranges.  A simple translucent white glaze has been applied (possibly of wood ash) as a metaphor for moisture, and a thin line of cobalt has been applied to the edges, drawing one’s attention to the ridges , which correlate to mountain ranges that separate water sheds and divide the plant into dry and moist bio-regions.  This piece is signed and dated 1999, and represents some of the more recent examples of Harvest’s work in this medium.
