About The Artist

Jan Rose grew up in Chicago Illinois in the 60’s.  Her artistic expression began while imitating a classmate in the 6th grade.  Later, her grandmother, who believed that idol hands could cause “some serious damage”, taught her arts & crafts in a very “folksy” style.

She is self-taught and her subjects are primarily “People of Color”.  She loves their passion, spirit, and their ability to affect the world in a bodacious way.

She believes an artist must evoke something from the observer a change of mood or a paradigm shift”.  For many years she felt that she lacked that ability, as well as creativity.

She prayed for creativity and the ability to communicate through it.   It was answered and she“Conceived. “ She now describes herself as being “in Full Term ”, with thoughts and  ideas that have exceeded her greatest expectations.

Preferring to work in series format she has recently completed “Praise and Worship in the Dance”. Her greatest challenge as an artist was a 96x120 ft mural on the old Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta.  It was a community project that she organized and led to completion.

She finds both freedom and responsibility in the creative process and believes balancing both is a delicate dance.
