1927 - March 25, A.E. Worsley Sr. opened a wallpaper store in the Troutman's store in Butler. Wallpaper sold from $.02 to $1.25 per single roll. Borders were printed on large rolls, like the wallpaper and had to be cut by hand.
1935 - Al Worsley Sr. opened his second store, "The Empire Wallpaper Co." where part of the Penn Theatre is currently located. Paint was added at this time and sold for $1.19 a gallon.
1947 - The building was sold, so the business was moved to Cunningham Street and employed 3 people. It was here that unfinished furniture was added.

1963 - Worsley's moved from Cunningham Street to its present location at 157-161 North Main Street. The building was being painted and set up at the new location, when on November 22nd President Kennedy was assassinated. Three people were employed at this time, Albert Worsley, Jr., his mother Anna E. Worsley and Al's wife Lorraine K. Worsley.

1969 - March 10, Worsley's purchased the building at 157-161 North Main Street from Jane and Cecelia Pillow.

1974 - Worsley's became a corporation. Albert E. Worsley Jr. as president, Lorraine K Worsley as Vice President, Keri Worsley Dolan as Secretary and Cheryl Worsley as Treasurer.

1976 - September, Worsley's expanded to the former Butler Office Products building, adding waterbeds, finished furniture and dolls.

1977 - Worsley's opened a store in Warren, PA.  It was managed by a family friend who lived in Warren. They stocked wallpaper, paint, unfinished furniture and dolls.

1983 - March 31, The Warren store was sold.

1984 - January 5, Worsley's purchased the former Furniture Galleries Warehouse building at 113 East Wayne Street, expanding to outdoor furniture. This location employed 2 people.

1991 - Dolls and collectibles proved to be so popular that the Cran-Mar location was soon outgrown. The store was relocated to a larger store in the Gigliotti Plaza. This store employeed 7 people.

1996 - July 19, Shearer Hardware at 153-155 North Main Street closed and Worsley's again expanded up the block. The building was cleaned and painted. The squeaky but charming wooden floors were sanded and varnished. Dolls, bears and collectibles found a new home.

1997 - February 7 proved to be a day that will never be forgotten by the Worsley family and their employees. This was the day of the devastating fire that destroyed the Wayne Street warehouse and its contents.

Today - Worsley's now employs 13 people and they are in their fourth generation of managing the business. We are happy to be joining the computer age and are happy that you have visited us online.
