While I respect manufacturers' attempts to protect the brand name, I blame eBay for having the dumbest autobots around. They're unable to distinguish between branded and unbranded merchandise when the branded merchandise uses common words. I have learned to use stagecoach instead of stage coach in listing titles - the latter will delay indefinitely the item being found in search. Now I learn I'm not entitled to sell postcards from Meissen Germany. No way, no how, no explanation but I know it is eBay's stupid autobots who have determined that Meissen is a protected brand name and not a city in Germany.

Another ridiculous outrage. Meissen was a locale and pottery town long before there was a Meissen Porcelain Works.
Next they will be veroing Dresden and Sarreguemines.

I have also been targeted by Ebay. I have selling Meissen on Ebay for 9 years. They are preventing me from selling Meissen articles. Does anyone know how to get this resolved with Ebay? They give no reasons for limiting my listing of these Meissen items. I have called them, begged them, and e-mailed them only getting canned responses and no solutions. Anyone else having this problem?

The last time i had a big problem with EBAY, I found one of their lawyers or solicitors. I told them the whole story and had it sorted within about 3 days. They seem to be the best way to get at EBAY internally. Worth a try.

Have you tried calling Trust and Safety? Is Meissen a high fraud product? I seem to remember reading on the PS Board or Stores Board about sellers having similar problems. Somehow they got the limits lifted - some had to wait 45 days or something like that. I guess I would start with Trust and Safety.

not sure that it will help but you might want to ask tabberone at the eBay VeRo and Copyright Forum at Auctionbytes? Couldn't hurt anyway.

Meissen has an office in NYC ,you may call them to ask if they are behind it.
Meissen said they do investigate when they hear folks selling Meissen items,on internet and on land.
They are concerned where do these items come from,as they want to go after the source(the maker),not the seller.
PS.
If they have a rep who has permission from EBAY to cancel auctions, then any item which does not look like it is made by Meissen could be cancelled.

I just wrote a description today for a pattern for a Chanel style suit, now I am wondering if that will work. As the ladies on this board will know, Chanel is a known for the style of collarless, unbuttoned jackets, but will eBay know that??

is it a dress or a pattern?
I swear some of the Eileen Fisher linen dress made in China is not made by her!

Amber, you stand a better chance of staying listed if you use Jackie O in your description instead of saying Chanel style.

It is a knitting pattern. Jackie O is not really correct for it, as far as I know it has always been called a Chanel jacket, maybe Jackie wore that style, but Chanel is very specific.

Chanel is a brand name. If Chanel didn't authorize the use of their name for the article, you can't use the word "Chanel" in your listing.

eBay just ended an auction of mine because part of the earring description is "tortoiseshell."
Morons. The takedown notice says you can use that term if you clearly state it's not real tortoise shell but it is obvious the takedowns are automated, so why bother?
