I have 1 out of 151 transaction which was a refund but not for eBay's list of reasons. It says I'm at 66% - I don't even know what that means.

"Canceled Transaction:

This refers to any transaction that you've canceled—either on eBay or PayPal—because you don't have the item anymore or you chose not to ship the item after it was sold"

There are many other reasons for refunds and a lot them have to do more with being a good seller - not defective.

Amen to that!

But that wouldn't help ebay lower the number of "discounts" given to sellers. (Their claim is that those good reasons are covered in the allowed percentages. Bah!)

I wish they would just forget about the stupid discount and let us manage our own business.
This defect issue maybe the last straw. As far as I'm concerned there will be no more free shipping, I'm charging for insurance, I'll ship in a reasonable time, I won't take returns, if I have to refund, I'll mail them a money order. I'll save more that way than with the stupid discount.
I think I've got 3 neutrals in 16 years with 3 IDs. Never got a negative. Does that count for anything?? I guess not.

Does that count for anything?

No, what counts is that eBay's bottom line for stockholders continues to rise. Anything else is a failure.

And that's the REAL defect!

I am reviewing my dashboard -

I find that 60% of my 2.14% defect rating is bogus.

A neutral feedback counts against a seller? The guy wanted a refund without returning the item because he failed to read the dimensions and the item didn't fit. Go figure.

INADs that were opened because a buyer was clarifying something after they bought it or didn't understand how something worked, or my favorite... the one who broke the item by putting a battery in backwards, opened an INAD, and I shipped them a replacement for free to Canada! A few canceled transactions because the buyer was a fraud or deadbeat...

The whole thing is a sham.

So, the only disadvantage of me dropping prices and adding shipping costs at this point is my DSR shipping cost... but after the defect system goes in affect, it isn't really going to matter if I get low DSRs for shipping?

Found my answer - "Shipping cost and communication detailed seller ratings will no longer count toward your performance rating. This will protect you from low ratings for shipping cost even though the shipping charges are shown to the buyer right up front when they purchase an item."

Well, that is how it should have been for the last few years under the DSR system. If you agree to purchase with the shipping costs, then why do you get to complain about it?

I will have to change my shipping for all of my items AND my return policy as well. Though I offered free shipping on my items, larger items had a restocking fee of 5% + my cost of shipping. Now I can change it to a flat restocking fee with original shipping non-refundable.
