So, how do you make all these wonderful smilies; and place images in your posts? And just what the heck does FWIW mean anyway?

Here’s a beginner’s guide to the fun and informative world of posting on Auctionwatch.com.

SMILIES

= colon + right parentheses
= colon + small o
= semi colon with right paren
= colon + left parentheses
= colon + D

UBB CODE (substitute for HTML) to insert images and make hyper links here on AW:

Don't type any spaces!!

[ img ] insert your image file location here with no spaces [ /img ]
[ url ] insert link url location here [ /url ]
[ b ] makes any text within these “bookends” BOLD [ /b ]
[ i ] makes any text within these “bookends” italicized [ /i ]
[ email ] type e-mail address to create a quick link [ /email ]

Some commonly used ACRONYMS on AW (Auctionwatch):

BTW = By the way
CG = Community Guidelines (read these!)
CYE = Check your E-mail
FWIW = For what it’s worth
IMO = In my opinion
IMHO = In my humble opinion
IOW = In other words
LOL = Laughing out loud –or- Laughing On-Line
NARU Noun = Not a Registered User
NARU'd Verb = Removed as an EBAY USER = as in TOS'd from EBAY
NEG'd verb = Left a negative for an EBAY user
ROTFL= Rolling on the floor laughing
ROTFLMAO = Rolling on the floor laughing my a$$ off
OT = Off Topic
OTOH = On The Other Hand
TOS Noun = Terms of Service
TOS'd Verb = Removed from board due to violations of Terms of Service
TY = Thank you
WOMD = Weapon of Mass Destruction (sometimes posts on AW are hit by a WOMD. You may see someone refer to a post as WOMD.
YMMV = Your mileage may vary

Maybe we can keep this thread for all newbies and add any new codes and acronyms to it as needed?

Have a good time, and don’t forget to tip your waiters and waitresses on your way out!

Hi Fashion -- Thanks! Even though I have most of these figured out now, I've bookmarked the thread and made it available "offline" for those times I have a Senior Moment and need help.

I asked Bob in another post why AW doesn't have a link for this info, but I haven't check to see if he answered. Sorry Bob, I'll check now.

That was a great idea to post, thanks for doing it Fashion.

It reminded me, (this is off topic) was it you who once posted, in passing, a color chart for HTML? I'd love to have that posted again, if it was you..

Donny, I forgot to mention that the chart is in gif format. I downloaded it to my hard drive, printed it out (legal size sheet) and laminated it. It's nice to have it handy when writing descriptions offline.

If you prefer a chart with color names with the numerical RGB values, this one is nice, but was too big for me to print out.

Boy,that was helpful Fashion. Trying it here

Now if you or somebody could tell me where you get those great graphics like the banjo playing frog I just saw on another thread; cheerleaders, etc. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I have to say I'm a little offended by the gif krs. Personal and political opinions aside, I think it is in poor taste, no matter which side you happen to be on.

Fashion:

This is exactly what I was looking for when I started the other thread. It's amazing that there is nowhere on this site that tells you how to do this stuff, even the simple things.

Thank you for your help.
