[AuctionWatch has prohibited me from posting the following report in an <auctionsite - date> subject line format. This report would have been Bidville listings - 08-Aug-2001.]
Here's some recent datapoints. The order is date, total listings, sportscards listings and percentage of total listings, and listings in all other categories.
A Premier or Premier Plus membership is required to use Bidville's image hosting (in excess of twenty), as announced on July 27 and effective August 1. For those without a Premier or Premier Plus membership, Bidville will begin deleting their images September 1.

somebody said ' Of course, I don't see a 1.4% sell-through rate with little prospect of improvement in the foreseeable future as very encouraging either." which sounds like another doomsday prediction by the resident numbers guru.
I would also like to say that Beckett.com marketplace is the leader in internet card dealing. Not ebay and not Bidville. However I have noticed a nice trend in better quality cards being offered on Bidville which I FIND very encouraging. Then again, I dont sit in front of an adding machine 3 times a day so I probably have no idea what I am talking about.

Yes, I remember seeing that comment as well. I looked at *all* the follow-ups from others and, you know what? Not one reason for an improved sell-through rate was mentioned.
I cannot seem to find the Bidville weekly sell-through report for the week that ended last night. Do you know where it is?

OH MY GOSH!!! Dimview, do you realize you forgot to insert the paragraph about the premier membership in TWO of your update posts yesterday? WHAT HAPPENED? Or are you only putting this vital information in some of your postings?

When I look at the very first stats posted in this thread and the very last stats posted in this thread (with 5 days worth of stats reported on multiple times each day in between ad nauseum) I just don't see a staggering difference or the huge drop of listings that was predicted to happen.
BTW, the breakdown for what is being incorrectly referred to as sportscards listings also contains the following categories:
Memorabilia (5624) Sporting Goods (2764)
The correct category title as appearing at BidVille is Sports Stuff.
Have a great day!

I must have missed *that* prediction. A pointer to the thread would be most appreciated.

I'm sorry dim, I don't have time to locate them for you. I have to go out and find more great items for the upcoming Sportmania Event at BidVille this month. Didn't you save links to all your posts on your desktop?
You're usually so thorough. Good luck finding them though!
I may look later

Here's some datapoints from the past two weeks. The order is date, total listings, sportscards listings and percentage of total listings, and listings in all other categories.
From the high on July 27, when Bidville announced its image hosting policy, there has been a decrease of 10,798 listings (-1.5%), while sportscards have increased by 5,989 listings (+1.6%), so there has been an decrease in all other categories of 16,798 listings (-4.9%).
What does this tell us?
It was pointed out to me that sellers of "common" sportscards are generally listed without images. That makes sense since they are hardly worth the time and effort of scanning, uploading, etc., so these listings are largely uneffected by the image hosting restrictions.
Sellers in other categories, however, are keenly aware that images are a necessity in making a sale. They are the ones that will feel the brunt of the image hosting restrictions.
I previously mentioned the number of listings required for sales based on the 1% sell-through rate:
Bidville is allowing just 20 free images each month, so the average seller will have 0.2 sales each week.
What seems clear is that sellers require a large number of listings for minimal weekly sales, and the average seller will likely find it difficult to generate sales sufficient for a $5/month Premier membership, let alone a $10/month Premier Plus membership.
What we don't know is how many auction sellers are currently using Bidville's image hosting, but we're sure going to find out starting tomorrow. I'm looking for a continuation of the decline as sellers are confronted with the image hosting requirements.
And it looks like we'll be needing some FLUFF sometime tomorrow.

The gallery and featured auctions sell rate is getting to be a joke anyways as the sportscards ( almost never the other sports memoribilia ) are taking over those gallery and featured auctions sections. Newcomers will click on 'featured auctions' and see the majority are single insert sportscards and unless they are sportscard enthusiasists they will move on. There should be an influx of new featured & gallery listings ( due to image hosting change ) and this new influx may compound the problem.

Interesting that you don't care about the stats, yet took the time to navigate through several clicks to post *that*. < LOL >
By the way, where's the Bidville weekly sell-through report. Seems kinda funny that Bidville would send an e-mail encouraging its members to sign-up for Premier and Premier Plus memberships just the other week, pointing to its own weekly sell-through numbers, yet here we are today *still* waiting for the update that would demonstrate just how much "bang for the buck" those memberships generated last week.

Dim, you are very presumptuous to assume I was referring only to you. Many people post their opinions at AW. A few were expecting a mass exodus when all this started. Sorry, I just don't see it. Since you insist on such frequent updates I suppose I expected to actually see something staggering.

Well, I felt the need for some comic relief. I am just glad that with my birthday coming tommorow I will not be getting any pocket protectors or tape for the center of my glasses. I suppose such gifts probably damaged some people for life from childhood causing them to spend all of their free time calculating algorythmes in relation to the speed of light and rain showers off the east coast and how those numbers affect auction ratings.
AHHHHH this weekend up in Canada will be SOOO nice.

Your misrepresentation.
And, then, earlier in this thread,
hmmmmmm.... maybe they have heard that BidVille is the leader where sport cards are concerned and are trying to get a little piece of the sport card action.
Another misrepresentation.
I must say, however, you definitely are consistent.
Oh, and this one.
Advertising... I'll leave that to the owners. They obviously know what they're doing.
Maybe they'll "advertise" the latest weekly sell-through report. Still waiting.

Hello Everyone,
Some of you seem to feel personally insulted by the posting of statistics. I would suggest that rather than insult by innuendo, you just ignore the thread and the poster.
Dimview,
Whenever you would like to start a new thread, please let us know and we will lock this one up.
Your inital statement in your posts of "[AuctionWatch has prohibited me from posting the following report in an..." is quite amusing, but really no longer necessary. I think everyone knows why you are not starting new threads daily.

Joice, I request your patience as I clarify dims last as there seems to be some shifting, and pasting of comments made earlier in this thread. Since dim's post was allowed I'd like to address it. I'll then exit the thread.
My comment:
"When I look at the very first stats posted in this thread and the very last stats posted in this thread (with 5 days worth of stats reported on multiple times each day in between ad nauseum) I just don't see a staggering difference or the huge drop of listings that was predicted to happen."
In response you posted the following:
" I must have missed *that* prediction. A pointer to the thread would be most appreciated. "
[b]I then declined your offer.[b]
And then:
"Then let me inform you that your statement is a complete misrepresentation of what I *did* say."
"My forecast was made in A Bidville listings forecast
http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=33&thread=12969"
I don't see where in my original comment that it was specifically directed at you. You used the word "I" and made it evident that you assumed it was directed at you. Many people had opinions on the matter, did they not? Was there a concensus among your group that did not at least imply that a mass exodus was to ensue? Please stop attempting to confuse the issue in your pastings.
