Thanks Toollady
55.2% sportscards and still a week away from the start of the Sportsmania sale. I wonder if sellers are going to edit titles or just list thousands & thousands & thousands & thousands of new sportscard auctions for the event.

The big number is nice to see, but it still looks like there are maybe only a couple of hundred different people buying from each other on Bidville. I'm thinking that's about as big as their "community" is going to get unless someone injects the site with a little bit of vigour. It's getting very stale and "same old, same old".
From what I have been told, it appears as though "He" has deserted his followers, so no help can be counted on from that corner in terms of advertising.
From what I know, most of "His" prime followers seem to have found another site. We'll have to see what happens with the numbers over there. I'm sure Dim will start some stats on that when returned from vacation.
Jim ... Although I know you and a couple of other good BV supporters are working very hard to make the upcoming sale a success, I really can't see the point of a "Sportsmania" sale at Bidville. No doubt it will increase the big number, and probably even the number of sales, but it probably won't bring in any new sellers or buyers to the venue.
How are they going to find out about it unless they already know about Bidville?

What Bidville needs to do is funnel some of their income toward advertising like BargainandHaggle is doing and we'll see a marked change in the Buying and Selling #s. The site needs new blood. But they won't do it.
Either they have very little to no disposable income, or they're vehemently opposed to advertising.

I think any money they did have is tied up in "something else" that has to do with PayPal
"His" idea of making some quick dough by selling premium memberships looks to be backfiring. I hear many of these members are not happy with what they are getting for their money. Not much encouragement for potential new premium members.
Bidviile should really look at charging a final value fee, then when they realize that not enough is being sold to support their overhead, they will finally give up and go away.

RB,
the purpose of this event is for sellers to try diffent things,(hopefully they will), I am ofering free shipping, and a bonus for first time winners. I know some others are trying different things also. The idea is to see both, what does and does not work, and eventually we will want to take the lessons learned to use on other individual category types. We are starting with Sport Stuff, because it is the largest listing category on Bidville, and hopefully it will be able to provide enough information about diverse ways to help strengthen a category. I felt that would be better than starting with a category where there may only be a few sellers righ now.
Additionally, it is alos encouraging some folks to "branch out" their listings a bit. That way they are trying a different category for them. They can only learn from the experience.
After it is over we will try to see what worked, if it was successful. Or, if it flops, then perhaps we will have learned what does not work.

Do these listing numbers include duplicate auctions? The reason I ask is that I just browsed the Bidville movies (VHS) categories and I see a LOT of VCDs listed in these categories that are identical in all respects to listings in the DVD categories (same description, same price, same seller etc.).
This makes me wonder what the real number of different item listings is.
I know that these VCDs are Hong Kong "dime a dozen" bootlegs and can be duplicated at home with a simple CD burner, but if they are listed in two separate categories (both wrong categories btw!), I wonder how many other items are included twice or more times in the totals.
Anyone know how to determine this, short of checking out each and every listing?

Thanks toollady. I guess it is safe to assume then, that the total is not accurate - it does include several items more than once in the count.
