Oh boy, here come the advertisements!
There are several free auction sites. There is auxpal, dutchbid, epier, and a few more. All seem to be widely talked about.
Right now none of the sites are getting the bids that you may used to on ebay or yahoo, but the three mentioned above seem to be coming on strong. I'm sure that eventually they will all charge fees, but I do know that dutchbid will never be charging a basic listing fee, only a fee for fvf and for enhancements and auxpal has a similar plan.
I say try them all! Then make a decision based on which one makes YOU like the most.
Good luck with whichever site you choose.

Bidvine (AuXpal)looks good and listings are growing fast. I have listed a few items and have no bids and very few hits. However, some people are reporting sales. I find few bids when I scroll the catagories. They say they will help if you have several items to list and some people report receiving the help. About three weeks ago they indicated they would list over 1,000 items for me if I sent a CD. None have been listed yet. Last week customer service said the disk is laying on a programmer's desk and I will be contacted soon. I hope they follow through. This is a nice site with a pleasing look and good features. I hope they find a way to attract sufficient bidders. If so they could soon become the #2 auction site.
eOrbis has no listing fee. Lists auction in english and also translates to spanish (sometimes this causes problems listing). I have been listing a few items there for more than six months and have had no bids. I have corresponded with them about help with bulk listing. They indicate an interest but I have not sent them a CD. I'm still thinking about it. I do not know how I would handle correspondence if a buyer only knows spanish.
LowestBids claims free listing for life (so does Bidvine if you register before mid March). Bulk lister is awful. Some of their advertised statistics are in my opinion questionable. Can not edit auctions once posted. Good live customer service. I have several hundred items listed with them for about a month and no bids.
WebSwap has free listing for 30 days then if you want you can relist unsold items for 90 more days for twenty-five cents. They collect the money for you and mail a check two to three weeks later. Final value fee is deducted from the check. In my opinion FVF is a little high but not unreasonable. I have been listing here for about six months. I keep 15 to 20 active listings and make about one sale per month. This is one of my favorite alternative sites. I will increase the number of listings I have there as time permits. They have a bulk lister but it's not very good. I wish AW AMPro would list to WebSwap.

I listed a couple things on lowestbids using their bulk loader. It's definitely easier now then it was. The number for amount of auctions seems accurate. They have about 70,000 books listed now so I don't think the 80,000 listed on their home page is far off. Not sure on the total number of items, though.
BidVille looks good to me. Someone posted here that they had a lot of bootlegs of videos and other junk items (get-rich-quick things). I saw some of those, but not to the extent that he said.
Both of these sites appear to have what it takes, but with everything, it takes time. Buyers will come.

I still use Fee-Bay for high end items and new listings. I am moving no sale items and lower priced (under $5.00) onto these two sites. I like both BidVille and E-Pier. BidVille customer service is fantastic and I have no complaints. They are willing to build a great site and look for your input. I have written 3 e-mails to E-pier this past week and yet to get a response. They could be overwhelmed with the influx of new users. In all my EOA from Fee-Bay and the other two sites I let the customers know about all 3 of my locations. Remember both Rome & E-bay were not built in a day. So give them a chance. I belive everyone should actually try both and see how things work out.

I'd suggest checking all the threads on these boards about alternate auctions sites for former Yahoo! users, and surfing each one to see which best fits your needs. Check the categories you usually sell in, and see if sellers are getting a decent sell-through rate on their listings. I've had good luck on Lycos and DutchBid, but the lack of bids in my categories on Bidville have convinced me not to waste my time listing there. Other sellers who sell different merchandise are having great luck on Bidville.

I'm going with DutchBid. Listing my last big batch (I hope) of items at ebay as fast as I can ... which isn't very fast! (Sigh)
Then onto the auctions I enjoy listing, which will be on dutchid .. had 2 sales out of 7 listings 1st time up .. got good prices.
Good luck wherever you land!

I'm basically moving some of my auctions back to eBay and the others to Bidville. I've looked at BidBay as well, but I have not gotten one single bid. Since my time at Bidville and I have sold 6 items. 5 of these items just sat on Yahoo! for months. What can I say.
Bidville has great customer support. I've emailed them twice and both times got a reponse in less than a day. They actually listened to my suggestion as well... which is always great.

I say give Bidville a shot. I took 3 more bids tonight and closed two sales via PayPal. I'm getting hits on everything and I have over 140 items up.
True, I'm a sports card Seller mainly, but I'm hearing more and more getting hits too on non card items.

My vote is for Epier and Bidville. Bidville's customer service and response time to emails is fantastic but when I have sent a fix-it email or a suggestion email to epier I have response back within 3 days or so. What is really great about epier is that t the problem is corrected or the suggestion I emailed them about is either fixed or suggestion is implemented within 12 hours !! It would be nice to get an email back from them but I cant complain too much if the problem is fixed or my suggestion was actually added to their site in record time!

epier
but what's important is letting your customers know where you are going...

I'm currently on 10 sites. Of the newer sites, I got my first bid on Lycos. It seems like my items in Epier are getting the most hits though. I hope to pare it down to 3 good sites.

Hi telwil,
You didn't mention what type of items you sell or what dollar range they are priced in. I think that makes a difference on where you move your listings. If you have multiples of an item, I'd try a variety of sites simultaneously. I'd never recommend putting all your eggs in one basket.
I was definitely not pleased about the listing fees at Yahoo but I have to admit, sales there for me have picked way up since people starting moving their items away from the site. I primarily sell dolls, sculptures and giftware at wholesale prices. I was honestly shocked at the increase in sales. I still wish they had a final valuation fee instead but I guess we take what we can get. I sold there for a couple years without any fees so I don't mind spending some money with them as long as it consistently turns a profit.
That being said, I use eBay, Yahoo and a few free sites like BidBay, Doll Nation, eWanted (reverse). I have had very good success selling $10-$50 items at BidBay, especially with their new Instant Buy feature. Their traffic isn't as heavy as eBay or Yahoo but there are some good buyers there if your items have little competition and they're priced to sell. At this time of year, a lot of people are looking for quality stuff at bargain prices.
I think all the new free sites have challenges with marketing budgets. They can attract sellers but what about buyers that are not primarily sellers? Which of the free sites have the biggest budgets?
I like checking out new sites since I have multiples of what I sell so I appreciate reading the replies here.
Good luck to everyone with their sales!

I too was looking for a few listing site and I stumbled onto edeal and I am so greatful. There is no listing fee you only pay when you sell. An added bonus when you do sell you start racking up points for the dollar amount you sell, these can be used to purchase stock in the auction site. People send their checks to you within just a few days after you email them the total amount for the auction, much faster than ebay. Relisting can be done with one click of the mouse. They have several listing options: open auction, fixed price auction, and interactive auctions. Also you do not have to have a certain feedback rating to list dutch auctions.
Thanks.

I think it would depend on the type of item you sell. I use the smaller sites for buying, as the audience doesn't seem to be strong enough for selling of my type of items. I like the quality of items I found while searching epier. Haven't checked out Bidville...yet. Found lots of sports cards, beanie babies, recipes and SMC type items on Bidbay. I would research what you sell on each of the smaller sites to see if that type item is moving.

For what it's worth, I listed about 35 items (all books) on Webswap and made a first sale inside of a week. Not great, but it's a start. Two questions to support were answered promptly, and signed by a real person who actually looked at my account to figure out what I needed to know.
The fee is 9% compared to Half.com's 15% and they have a similar database for books, CDs, etc. where all you need to know is the ISBN. In addition, there is a way to list such items even if they are not in the database.
An interesting aspect is that you can choose to make your price negotiable. My first buyer offered me a bit less than I had listed, and I decided to take it.
I'm going to wait out the 30 days and see how it goes.
Also, I haven't seen Bidville's fixed-price site, NoBidding, mentioned. I registered but haven't tried it yet.
All the sites mentioned have the potential, if they could just get the traffic.

Bidville gets my vote. Had several on Epier. Got absolutely NO bids and very few hits. Initially put 19 items on Bidville and sold 17 to one bidder. Currently have several items and have a bid on one that has been on Yahoo forever. It's a sportscard so I really couldn't afford to leave it on Yahoo and pay more in listing fees for it than I'm selling it for. I look for Bidville to continue to grow. They have promised those of use that begin with them early will never pay Listing Fees if they feel in the future they have to charge them. Who could ask for anything more? We'll just have to work hard to get it going and growing.

While it's cool that BidVille is offering free listings forever for its users that sign up now, they actually took the idea from another site that had it a good 10-14 days before they did. Yet nobody brings that up.

I had 69 auctions remaining on Yahoo. Last night I sent BIDVILLE (aka AUXPAL) an email requesting them to import my auctions from yahoo to BIDVILLE. When I awoke this morning all 69 auctions were listed with them and I never lifted a finger.
I listed one item with BIDVILLE about a week ago to test the water and it sold within one day. ( A $10.00 item)
I think this site is going to get better and better and I already like the format. They are making improvements daily.

iluvauctions - Initially BidVille(AuXpal) did not have that sign up now - forever free offer. There was another site that offered it but they had representatives and CEO's on the boards here shoving it down throats and emailed everyone they could find an email for begging for business. That really turned me off to the site.
Several sellers emailed BidVille and asked them for an offer. We wanted a guarantee that if we helped the site to grow with our business and referrals that we wouldn't be cast out to dry when they got BIG and no longer needed us. And they complied.
So they didn't take the idea from any other site. Sellers requested such an offer from them. I know that I sure did!

But how can you be so sure that BidVille, or any site for that matter, will hold up to that deal? How do you know that somewhere down the road after they've been charging for a while (assuming they start) they won't decide to take back that promise and start charging you?

to iluvauctions:
You can't ever be sure that they won't break their promise. But if you hold back waiting for guarantees, you'll never get ahead. Sometimes you just have to take things on faith and let God deal with those who break their promises. The major factor today is that it's a free site willing to work with us who have been betrayed by Yahoo's stupidity. When times are tough as they have been on Yahoo for the last few months you look for ways to grow business not ways to run it off. Well Yahoo got the economic theory backwards and is reaping what it sowed. If Bidville will pay attention it will form an alliance with it's community and will grow to number 2 for sure and maybe even number 1.

dreamgirl: Perfectly stated. I don't know that they won't break their promise but I am willing to give them that chance.
However, I have used BidVilles other site NoBidding since it opened a couple years back and it has always been a stable, friendly place to do business. I am hoping that BidVille is the same. I can't just give up on every site because of some ill-conceived plans of one site. Which I have to admit at the onset of this I was ready to do.
I have 2 years and over 500 feedback put into Yahoo and this was a slap across the face. I turned people onto Yahoo Auctions who had no idea it was even there.
I can sit here with boxes of crafted items, etc and wait for Yahoo to apologize and have my confidence restored or I can pick myself up, dust off and list all those items on a site which appears to appreciate our business.

My recommendation is auxpal ( aka bidville)
I have had some success after moving my auctions from yahoo. And have gotten bids, sales, and customer service replies
Epier is slow and so far nothing yet but I hear there are some disgrunted ebayers trying to get it to work. And I have been keeping track of the different sites since Yahoo 1/10. Bidville has really boomed from 2,000 to 200,000+ listings.
