(And if I were you, I would have mentioned something about precendents being set...but thats just me...)-What the difference is here is, the parents who are willing to care for their invalid daughter - read that again: they are willing to care for her - have pleaded and begged for just the chance to do that. This guy can go on with his life. Many a person is 'dead' to another without really being dead, and I see no detriment to him going on living his life with her still living.
The sad and stark truth is nobody really cares too much for the impoverished or other such individuals. Oh, people care in a socially conscious way - they do what they can to help. But you can only help so many, so far, and then you can only be so much of a hypercrite abotu where your own main interests lie.
