Where do you stand? Stem cells can help repair damaged body parts but need to be harvested from human embryos. Since these embyos are destroyed after use, Bush feels this is destroying life and said he wouldn't approve of something that destroys life to give life.
How do you feel?

Wow, it's like you (finally) saw the light, Classic! I agree - stem cells taken from the eggs of democratic women would obviously produce the best results.

Let's see here.
He's against GOVERNMENT funding of embryotic cell research.
He's against 'farming' embroys. Creating LIFE to kill it. You should be able to understand that concept, KD. Since you feel so differently about animals than you do about human life.
And IF this were the best way to go...those who say this would be so wonderful/helpful COULD put their OWN money where their mouths are and pay for it themselves. The one's saying it would be so beneficial are the one's whose salaries will benefit the most IF we decided to fund their projects.
There are too many American's who DON'T want they money used in this way. I'm sure cheryl will understand that concept.

Hey....I'd agree with that suggestion. Let THEM spend THEIR OWN money on the research.
They don't on drugs...we do, they don't. Their drugs are cheaper because of just that.
Maybe the same will apply if they pay for this reseach. We'll benefit without having to pay for it.

Concerned about what your President is doing? Huh? I stated how your President felt on the issue because most of the posters here are American. Then I asked for opinions on the subject of stem cell research.
As for research results from an idiot, who are you referring to?

How did my name get dragged into this? I'm all for using our tax dollars for stem cell research. Never said I wasn't. I'm all for spending my tax dollars on things that will benefit the people here and this could potentially benefit thousands of people. However, creating life just for the stem cells is not something I would support.

KD Most everyone knows what the President thinks and that is one reason he won the election, but not the only one.
There is some stem cell research in the US in fact the University Of Wisconsin is one of them but not the stem cell that embryos have to be killed.
Well to have another child to save another has already happened in California. The couples older child needed a bone marrow transplant and they couldn't find a donor. They talked it over with their OBGYN doctor, and he wasn't in favor of having one child to save another, but the couple were in their late 30's, wanted another child and they knew the risk that the baby might not be compatible. She got pregnant, had the baby, and she was compatible. I think the new baby had to be 2yrs old before the transplant. She had the transplant and both children are doing good.

Ladies, you might want to read up on current events because there is a bill in the house right now to expand research perameters beyond those originally set by the President and straw poll results show that it has enough support to get through BOTH houses. Unfortunately, despite the fact that he holds a minority opinion, Bush as stated that he will press his moral opinion over those of the public and both houses and Veto bill.
I think it is well beyond time that someone reminds him that he was elected as a representative of the people, not their moral compass.

Libra - hundreds of couples have had children in hopes of saving a sick child. That issue first made the news well over a decade ago.
The problem with the federally funding on stem cell research is that it is limited to 11 (I think) existing lines. But not all of the lines are completely viable and they are all privately held so there are big fees involved in theri usage. Privately or state funded research is not held to the these finite lines and California among others have developed state funded programs as a result of the federal limitations.
Why should these limitations be lifted? It's common sense. We atre not talking about human lives here. We are talking about unfocused cells that are barely old enough to turn a piss strip blue. This country has the finest research minds and facilities in the world and we are turning our backs on the possibility curing diseases and saving millions on long term health care costs based on the moral views of a single indiviual. We can make more advances in much less time than simply "letting Canada do it" or taking such other irresponsible cavelier attitudes.
Scintists are about as egocentric as they come and throughout the world even they admit that much greater advances could be made in the field if American researchers and facilities were able to freely enter the frey.

I support it, 100%. There is too much possible good that can come from it, and NO downside. It isn't like these are embryos that are ever going to be given the chance to grow up after all.
I don't hear any of the people who oppose it offering to thaw them out and take them home to raise.

Well fenix I think your wording is a little crude. If it happens well I can't do anything about it but I can voice my opinion and not have it trashed. as many do in these threads. I will stand firmly on my believe and post it when I think it is right.
Would you want another George Bush, John Kerry or anyone else cloned. Not me and I am sure give them an inch and they will take a mile. Where does it stop. Going a deep maybe another Hitler. Who knows what happens behind closed doors.
Lets put it this way kill your baby to save someone who is older and might not live even after the stem cell.
If the people don't like others moral values then what they need to do is not associate with those people. Right? He was elected in part by his moral values. He has appointed judges on his moral values. What do we do flush moral values down the toilet.
Fenix can you positively tell me that a baby isn't a baby when the heart is beating? A baby isn't a baby until it is born? What about that 11 oz baby in New york. What about the 6 oz baby that lived. My first cousin that lived weighing only 2 pounds. and
that was over 60 years ago.
This is my opinion and I am going to leave it
like this but I am sure there will be a lot of trash talking about me. Who cares it just helps the poster feel a little better.
I was brought up by moral parents who I went to church with every Sunday. They impressed upon me that moral values are something to cherish. I am not going to give these up because there are certain people that don't have any and I will continue to have these values until I die.

Not one bit different than when both houses passed 'moral' bills under clinton...and he VETO'd them. I believe he vetoed late term abortion TWICE, when it had passed both houses during his two terms.

I said too many American's didn't want their tax dollars to be used in this way.
On a previous subject...the war in Iraq...YOU didn't want your tax dollars spent in THAT way.
I thought just maybe you might be able to understand the 'concept' that different citizens do and don't want THEIR tax dollars to be spent on things THEY don't support.

Forgot to mention Libra, stem cell research and cloning have precious little to do with one another. The mechanics involved in cloning are pretty much already known, lots of forms of life have been successfully cloned to date....not so with stem cell use as a cure for disease.

Just as they wanted the life of Shavico take before it's 'natural' time. You're worthless to THEM...pull that plug.
And they support government sanctioned abortions on demand...that murder the unborn.
BUT they claim they don't support BIG government playing a BIG BROTHER roll in our lives. yea...right.

No profe because they haven't had the means for Stem Cell, but I am sure they already know what to do and also I am sure there are many young and older women that will give up their embro's for money.
Unless you didn't know it cloning is against the law also.
profe there are some that I can understand but when the battering continues thread after thread I can't. It seems like the only opinion on this board is crowfarm's. If we don't agree with her opinion she calls us stupid and some other choice words. I thought she was a lady when she first came to this board but it turned out she was nothing but.(My opinion for what is is worth.) There are no ladies that talk like her. Following me from post to post adding little quips unrelated to the threads. She even accused me of stalking her and I posted three times to that thread to her 10+. Now who is the stalker.

The right wants tom DeLIE sticking his nose in your marriage and bedroom.
"""Just as they wanted the life of Shavico take before it's 'natural' time. You're worthless to THEM...pull that plug."""
Blind ignorance of the fact that this scenario happens every day in America, just like Tom DeLIE did to his father and others have to do to their loved ones.
""""And they support government sanctioned abortions on demand...that murder the unborn."""
"They" support women as humans with rights to their own bodies. We do not suport people who lie about the reasons for going to war killing thousands of babies.
""'BUT they claim they don't support BIG government playing a BIG BROTHER roll in our lives. yea...right"""
But the Republicans do.
