It used to be 50 to 60 percent until a few weeks ago then it started dropping off out of about 40-45 auctions that ended Sunday I had 2 pay me paypal and the week before it was also very low and the week before that no one paid with paypal. I still have the logo on my aucition as of last Sunday (took it down this week) but I have noticed a steady decrease in the number of people paying paypal and more that seem to prefer billpoint now that they are lowering their fees and are comparable to paypal I am most certainly going to switch I think just for the Ebay auctions though. I use Paydirect from Yahoo on my Yahoo auctions and I am noticing a steady increase in that and it is a really smooth and a free system. On the average in the "good" old paypal days I would say the percent was 50-60 but I haven't seen that for awhile at least in my auctions.

From 1/2 to 2/3 of my buyers pay with PayPal.

Buyers are choosing to make their payments based on the costs charged to the seller? That seems unlikely...

mrpotatohead-

It's a run-on sentence, but the meaning changes considerably when you read all of it:
"I have noticed a steady decrease in the number of people paying paypal and more that seem to prefer billpointnow that they are lowering their fees and are comparable to paypal I am most certainly going to switch I think just for the Ebay auctions though."

traceyg appears to be expressing two thoughts here; fewer people paying via PayPal while more are paying via Billpoint AND now that fees are lower she's switching to Billpoint for her eBay auctions.

I've noticed the same thing lately, too. It started a couple of weeks ago. I had a big increase in the number of Billpoint invoice requests.

In my case, I believe it's because I've just had another wave of new eBayers who aren't familiar with PayPal while Billpoint is promoted all over eBay.

I did read all of it, but I believe you're correct- depending on how you read it, you can come up with varying conclusions.

I still have the logo on my aucition as of last Sunday (took it down this week) but I have noticed a steady decrease in the number of people paying paypal and more that seem to prefer billpoint.

Now that they are lowering their fees and are comparable to paypal. I am most certainly going to switch.

... which is what you are saying.

Or...

I still have the logo on my aucition as of last Sunday (took it down this week).

But I have noticed a steady decrease in the number of people paying paypal and more that seem to prefer billpoint now that they are lowering their fees and are comparable to paypal. I am most certainly going to switch.

... which is how I originally interpreted it.

Without the punctuation, it can be confusing.

90% on Yahoo auctions
80% on Ebay

I am really starting to push PayDirect and Exchangepath now until PayPal figures out what they are doing over there!

It's gonna hurt, but that's life. I used to list all of my auctions on Ebay, but then, Ebay started messing around and I am trying to build a rep and move some auctions to other venues like Yahoo to strengthen my presense on auctions so that I am not totally reliant on any ONE site.

I guess I need to do that with my direct payments as well.

Adding...the referrals are not important to me--I just like the ease of use and the fact that service is so quick.

Before the verification thing we were receiving about 60% of our payments through PayPal. After verification it dropped to less than 50%. Last week we noticed an increase in Billpoint and BidPay useage..

Now that Billpoint has become more affordable we will actually include the Billpoint icon in our listings. We have been accepting Billpoint payments for a while now but we have not included it as an option in our listings.

We attempted to sign up for PayPlace last night but for some reason they could not verify our address. So I guess they will not be an option for a while.

We have not been promoting PayDirect but it is an option on all of our yahoo listings. We have not, as yet, received any PayDirect payments.

I received my first PayDirect payment last night. I received the e-mail notifying me it was there. Went to the link provided in the e-mail and accepted the payments and BINGO! Smooth as silk!

I remember the beginning of PayPal having some rough waters when we didn't receive our notifications, the servers were down, etc. etc. (you can find NUMEROUS threads about that all through AW!) We stuck with them, they ironed out the kinks and things went on.

With any new service, there is a "learning curve" and I am willing to invest some time into some of the other options so that I am not wholly dependent on one service.

I think the reason people are asking to pay via billpoint now is that if you pay with visa or mastercard, you get $1.00 off.

jeanyu: 30% of my sales were paypal before I gave them the old heave ho! Just wondering why you are wondering these statistics? Never to deny that paypal and credit card options offered the fastest easiest way to complete a transaction. But like I said---just wondering why you have these questions? Care to extrapolate---John10101 ?

Hey, there's no way to reply to an individual message and I'm sure this will get buried in the number of threads that show up every day. Anyway, I just have an interest in Ebay and was trying to come up with a ballpark estimate of the amount of revenue that PayPal will generate from fees. I plan to post my results here

if anyone has any interest or if anyone would like to join the discussion.

I just finished my "first of the season" auctions. I only had four things this time.

One item didn't hit the reserve, and the other three all used PayPal, two within minutes of EOA!

100%. I haven't had a PayPal problems so far. I like it.

(yes I am terrible with run-ons live with it ; ) (drives my aunt nuts also. She is a teacher. I know better I am just lazy when it comes to English. I know ten demerits). Actually, I don't take billpoint yet as you stated above. I am thinking of switching. I have more customers asking for it stating they like it better then paypal. Some of the reasons well one I heard is that they were tied of trying to access paypal. I have heard this more then one time.

Potatohead so for your statement buyers don't always make their decisions based on cost. If you think that you are well wrong. They are many other factors that play in cost is only one. As for my fees they haven't changed, so in what you state above in your message there should be no reason for the drop. After all a money order or even a personal check costs more to send then paypal. Yet they are choosing these methods. For book I charge anywhere from 1.95 to 2.50 or if they want priority 3.45. I bubble wrap and all that. So, I don't charge a fee for shipping. I have had a large drop in paypal sales. I am not sure why. A few of them were going to pay paypal and got frustrated when they couldn't get in and just sent a check. Either way now that I am getting rid of paypal I guess the rate will drop even lower for me to zero I would bet ; ). There are to many hassles and not enough benefits. To many changes not enough time to adapt. Two weeks you must be kidding. Instead I will stick with Paydirect and maybe billpoint now that the fees are down.

Hope that clear up the run-on

I average about 28% PayPal pyts. I have no problem accepting checks or MO's. I seemed to manage that way for a year before PayPal came along. The only hands that are necessary to make my "out of bedroom" business operate are mine, eBay, my ISP and the PO. Too many cooks spoil the soup. Sorry, PayPal...I've had to downsize and your job has been eliminated.
