got my package! just in time for my friend's birthday! She had been wanting this VHS for a long time... and I wanted to surprise her!
I opened the package to check it out!
only....
to....
discover....
....to my disappointment, that this seller failed the mention that the video cassette flap is has a missing tab on the left side of the tape in his auction description.
what can I do? I can't give my friend the broken cassette!
~sniff~

Grab another cassette and pirate parts to fix the broken one, or just unscrew it and move the tape into a new case.

Is the tab missing the one that you pull off to insure that the tape cannot be taped over?

I'll rephrase: it's the flap in the front of the tape that flips back with you put it in the VHS machine.
and NO! I don't wanna do that! there's a spring on the other side! that prevents the flap to come off completely!

WOW!
Talk about leaving out an important detail in the auction. I wish I had good advise to give you.
Sorry this has happened to you.

I just wrote to the seller informing him of the problem... I hope he responds soon since he got a good feedback (1000+)

If you're not up to tape cassette surgery, take it to a video repair joint - they should be able to do it for you. It's really not that difficult, but if you haven't done it before, you may want to 'experiment' on a couple of tapes that you no longer care about (like one of those cheap 99 cent Wal Mart specials).
Good luck!

Ok here's the reply from the seller:
______________
The flap is broken? I can either send you a flap and you can fix or you can
ship it back and I will fix and return. I can't believe that someone didn't
pull it and tell a manager before shrink wrapping it. I'm so sorry.
Let me know what you want to do.

someone on this board gave me an idea how to get this tape fixed....

Yeah, it was toyranch....
His idea is still the best one here. I've done that many a time, and it works fine.

TMC, that's an easy one to fix, since most videotape components are interchangable. As long as there is no real damage to the rest of the cassette, it should be easy to replace. Just be careful not to touch the tape itself too much (make sure it is fully rewound before trying this).

nope it wasn't toyranch sorry to disappoint you...
I took the tape to a friend of mine who works at the video store for over 12 years and she does the repairs all the time (sheesh how could I forget all about that!)
and I really really don't wanna fix the tape myself because I've never done it before nor know how!!
I much prefer to take the VHS to someone who has enough experience.

my friend informed me that after 4 flap replacements, she had to put it in a new case because the flap is the wrong size.
it was viewed and it was GREAT!
I will leave the seller positive feedback for only prompt delivery. nothing more
