Gee, AuctionWatch is so unpredictable. Where are all the posters from the "pizza box" thread yesterday? Someone got attacked for doing the wrong thing, now someone's getting attacked for doing the right thing. I can't seem to figure out the common element in these threads.

Well, nokturnl, I happen to agree with you on this one.

It's a fact that there are lots of illegal bootlegs being sold in the software categories at eBay. The subject was even featured in an article here (AW) this week.

What bugs me is not so much the sellers, but the buyers who knowingly buy these warez. For every seller's auction, there are 20 people lining up to buy the bootlegged disc. Bootlegs are killing my sales at eBay, and Yahoo is totally out of control.

As for your question, unless this is a blatant case of piracy, eBay will do nothing. That is, unless the ad states "home-made back up CD-R" forget about it. They will tell you to contact the copyright owner.

sjl1017...you did the right thing. I reported an auction a month ago that was selling prescription narcotics (the diet pills that had been ban by the FDA). The auction was ended. Don't ever be afraid to report something you feel is wrong - that's why they have SafeHarbor!! Even if something turns out to not be illegal (or against eBay rules), at least it can be looked into.
P.S. EBay ended that auction in 2 days.

I got a response from ebay today. At first I thought they were going to nothing about it. So I shot back an annoyed email. I just looked again and the auctions are no longer there. I can't say I'm happy about his auctions getting shut down, but I'm happy that standing up for what I felt was right had a result.
