ksterni: I definitely was not being confrontational. It just seems this is more of the confusion around x.com and paypal. I just went to check my balance, and again, I clicked on the banking tab. Here is what is on the screen:
Checking
Banking Services
No minimum deposit, no minimum balances and no monthly service fees!
Unlimited, free checkwriting
Free starter kit of 50 checks
X.com titanium Visa Check Card
Up to $6 per month in ATM surcharge rebates
Online account access, 24/7
FDIC insured
Check out our rates (as of 7/7/2000):
How strange that they have not changed this and are sending out emails to the contrary. Where is everyone finding the information regarding the NOW accounts and the fees at the website?
I do wish they would not say one thing and print another, but I still do not want to give Paypal or Billpoint my personal checking account so will leave the $100 in or pay the fee.
Sorry if I came across rude, I was just confused. (and still am after reading the above under "banking".)
Scroll way down to the bottom to the TRUTH IN SAVINGS DISCLOSURES as of October 2, 2000. It covers, in details, the changes that took place as of yesterday. These changes do, as per my phone conversation with X.com, effect all current checking accounts.
To whoever posted, suggesting that you write yourself out a check for the balance in your account and then close the account once it has cleared.... that maynot be such a good idea. You could, be stuck with the service charge, depending on your statement date. Just something to consider.

X.COM = greed
$12/mo. low balance maintenance fee puts them among the higher fee banks... This so soon after (still ?) promoting FREE? and while so young? No local branches?

Again, just to say, I have no problem with any of your posts! Thanks for contributing to the conversation! And YES, this topic is VERY confusing! Thanks.

I wonder what type person is running X.Com? I know it is a branch of First Western bank, but who in the world would still be advertising Free and no minimum deposit and no monthly service charges under the banking tab while burying a notice of $12 a month in another part of the site?
I have stood beside X.Com and Paypal, but that one really does lead to questions regarding honesty, integrity and credibility!

I think A $12.00 fee is very unreasonable for basically nothing, I have people that pay with paypal but never have I received a payment through X.com (Before they acquired paypal.) What are they offering me for 12 dollars they took away the overdraft protection, I think some people could justify the $12.00 to have the overdraft in case of emergencies, but they take that away and then tell you have to pay to have the account for what?????? There ATM/Visa?? I have an ATM card with visa logo from my real life bank so what do I need theirs for????
I know that you can still have the account free if you maintain a $100.00 balance but why would I do that.
Also with as many people that are saying that they are going to drop X.com I don't think it will be long before we see an announcement from X.com saying that there is a monthly fee no matter what you monthly balance is.

That's odd, I just opened my X.com account last week and am still waiting on the snail mail stuff. I asked all kind of questions by phone before opening it and I was told there is no minimum balance requirement and no monthly fee . Guess the customer service rep I talked to didn't know what was just around the corner eh?????
X.com Bank accounts and PayPal accounts are separate entities. You can still have a PayPal account without having an X.com bank account (and it is not a requirement to have an X.com bank account to have a PayPal account or vice versa).

Here's a list of banks (there are many others, but this list gives you a bit of information on minimums) that you can look through if x.com isn't your flavor. Be sure to check out the banks ATM policy, if your in Montana free ATM machines in Florida aren't going to be much use to you, many offer $6.00 a month rebates, for me that's important.
The $12.95 is high but unless my wife figures out my password "DIVORCE" I'm not worried about my balance dropping below $100.00 and paying any fees so I'll keep my x.com bank account.
