Linda, i saw Gov. Richardson on Fox a couple weeks ago and yes he has some real concerns about the illegal alien situation but he also signed a law that allows illegals to obtain drivers liscenses and i know that he is good friends with Vincente Fox, so i don't know what he is really up to.
I tend to think that because he is Governor of a border state that he is gearing up for a Presidential run and wants to show some concern for the illegal alien issue and that he will use his experience as a border state Governor in his platform in his race for Pres.

I know, piinthesky, we always need to remember they are, after all, all politicians first.
He believes like other liberals do...that because of un-insured drivers if we give them licenses then they can get insurance.
My solution? Just keep them out of the country and driving, insurance, etc. won't be a problem for anyone.
I'd be MUCH tougher on them that most politicians have been, probably ever will be. And it's sad too, because MOST [a very large majority of American's] are against illegal immigration. Even those Mexican's who came in legally. One half of them are against the illegals entering our country.

Whenever the day arrives that you 'take' crap from 10-15 liberals saying all kinds of garbage to you....THEN I'll listen to how I appear to you. As I've SEEN how YOU act when someone says something to you that you don't much care for. You totally go NUTS!!! Like you did when twelvepole made that comment about YOUR daughter. Remember how YOU acted? I do.
So don't talk to me about how I come across to those who've done the same to me. Take care of maggie...I'll talk care of Linda.

I have to tell ya'll a little story about one of Fox's visits to his friend Gov. Richardson.
This happened about a year ago and a friend of mine who was a volunteer at a charitable organization for handicapped and retarded people was on a field trip with some of her clients from the organization, at the Round House state capitol building.
Fox and Richardson were walking around outide along with multitudes of secret service personel in tow and Fox walked up to my friend, took her by the hand and pulled her in close and started saying something in Spanish to her, probably about what a beautiful city Santa Fe was or some such other thing, my friend doesn't speak Spanish.
My friend who has total disdain for all politicians waited until he was finished speaking and then she quickly pulled her hand away and shouted at him, GET REAL and she walked away.
Camera's were rolling but it didn't make the news.

Linda find everyone else's posts so VULGAR, why can't she put them on IGNORE.
Linda her multiple personalities.
Linda would love arguing with herself if she found out one of her other personalities didn't support Bush. She would be typing away on one of her three keyboards while each one of her personalities argue with the other one. Each one calling the other Un-American and accussing the others of supporting terrorists. Your post is vulgar, no yours is. You're a communist, well you are terrorist.
Linda - the one man Saturday Night Live Skit.
Let's take Linda's advice and put her on ignore, then she will only have herself to talk to.

Yes, please do. I'd much rather not have either of you talking to me since you don't have the ability to keep your comments non-incestuous, non-vulgar, non-vile nor civil.
But you'd be oh so wrong on others not speaking to me. The people I come here to enjoy still would be discussing the issues with me.

Red, sorry I haven't answered sooner. Its been a crazy few days around here trying to keep the ebay crooks away.
You have some interesting thoughts about the open southern borders.
I do believe its our governments job to protect our borders after all they are national borders not private borders.
I will agree American citizens needs to become more involved. If they get caught hiring illegals they need to be punished.
About Bush, it seems he talks a big game but plays in the minor leagues too often. He says he realizes the borders are a problem and says he is really going to put a better plan in place. Like one thing Bush promised is he is going to hire thousands of new border guards then hires 200. That number doesn't even make up for the border patrol that got called up for duty in Iraq.
Bush already has laws on the books that this government could use to punish people that hire illegals but no one enforces the laws.
Our government needs to start a campaign against employers that hire illegals. The first time they are caught fine them hard, the second time fine them Hugh, the 3rd time put employers in jail for awhile.
Target high profile companies along with the ever-day employer like farm employers.
Call in the news people when our government is making busts across the country. Show America our laws are finally being enforced.
Keep the pressure on employers about illegal hiring. If we did that enough the word would soon spread among employers that its not be worth hiring illegals.
Bush has tools to bring pressure on the Mexican government to help stop the flow of illegals. So far Bush has not used any of the power at his disposal.
You are so right that until its becomes too expensive to hire illegals nothing will change unless the American people make such a big fuss that our leaders can't ignore any longer. All we will hear is just more bull roar and broken promises from our leaders no matter what party they belong to.
So far it looks like a lot of Americans have more in common that not.
There is lot more that can be done that is not being done about our borders. Bush and many republican and democrats are setting on a time bomb. They better get off their asses before that bomb blows up in their faces.

Peepa, I agree with much of your post and will address a few specifics:
About Bush, it seems he talks a big game but plays in the minor leagues too often
I don't necessarily disagree. When it comes to this issue I think politicians on both sides have been neglect. Both parties have promised to deal with illegal immigration and the border issue and neither has stepped up to the plate. I agree that Bush talked a lot about the border in the debates leading up to the last election and I would like to see more from this administration on this issue.
Bush already has laws on the books that this government could use to punish people that hire illegals but no one enforces the laws
Agree that existing laws should be better enforced, disagree with using Bush's name as though he can personally enforce immigration laws. When you say "the government could use..." I'm not sure what the practical application of that is.
The first time they are caught fine them hard, the second time fine them Hugh, the 3rd time put employers in jail for awhile.
I haven't researched the punishments currently on the books for hiring illegals but assume they do exist. Even so, I'm not opposed to a tiered punishment level such as you suggest here. I think there needs to be carve outs for employers who hire illegals through no fault of their own. But those who knowingly hire illegals should be punished.
Call in the news people when our government is making busts across the country. Show America our laws are finally being enforced
I don't think we need to worry about that happening. Governments, regardless of the current administration, like this kind of PR. "Your tax dollars hard at work" kind of stuff.
Keep the pressure on employers about illegal hiring. If we did that enough the word would soon spread among employers that its not be worth hiring illegals
I think this goes with your earlier suggestion which is to simply do a better job enforcing the laws. The way to keep pressure up is to enforce the laws and not just make a few busts for good PR and then back off. The reality is that there will always be people willing to risk hiring illegals for the cheap labor but that doesn't mean we should be making it easy for them.
Bush has tools to bring pressure on the Mexican government to help stop the flow of illegals. So far Bush has not used any of the power at his disposal.
Perhaps he should send Pat Robertson down to discuss the matter. <smile> Actually though, I'm not sure what tools you are referring to.
Bush and many republican and democrats are setting on a time bomb. They better get off their asses before that bomb blows up in their faces.
I'll tell you what I like about this sentence, peepa. You said republicans and democrats. Not just republicans or just Bush. This is not a partisan problem and both political parties share in the creation of the problem and both will suffer unless something is done.

God...it's so nice and very different to actually read peepa having a 'normal' conversation with someone. I'd forgotten how he looked when he wasn't screaming.
But peepa....the President has added 1000 new border patrols...not 200. Please update your memory bank.

The story's BS
well...piinthesky...I think our profe has also purchased himself a broken crystal ball. But it's funny to read when they inform us that they have knowledge of EVERYTHING we have ever experienced in our own lives. How do they know every experience we've encountered all of our lives? Just because they know - much better than we what we've done or those around us have done. I get such a kick out of what they THINK they know.

Right Red, but ya got to remember the BUCK STOPS AT THE WHITE HOUSE.
About what tools this President has to pressure Mexico. Hell I don't know after all I'm just a dumb old antique dealer that does not have time to research about what tools Bush has at his disposal.
That is why when smart guys like Bush get elected they are the ones charged with the protection of this country. Bush has a Hugh staff of very smart advisers these advisers seem to find lots of tools to apply pressures on other countries the U.S. doesn't agree with. If the U.S. can find tools to pressure other countries Bush and his advisers could (if they wanted to) find the tools to pressure Mexico.
Let Bush start with speeches about how much damage illegals are doing to America. His smart advisers can come up with stats about the harm done by illegals if wanted. Let Bush make cross country trips talking about how the illegals and open border problem. Let Bush talk about how terrorist could enter America through our open borders. Let Bush talk what percent of Mexico's economy the illegals make up by sending U.S. dollars back to Mexico. Let Bush talk about how dangerous traveling to Mexico can be to American tourist. Come on Red you and I both know where there is a will there is a way.
Now I am off because my (much better half) just reminded me, I promised her in a weak moment to take her to a Vegetarian Restaurant she heard about.
