As of 7:27 PM PST ebay shut down in San Jose Ca, so If I cannot get them, I do not think anyone can. I have a major auction ending in 20 min. 530 hits, and $300 undervalue and no reserve, I guess I just take the neg, and refuse to sell it. Ed

Well shucks! If it is scheduled maintenance, then how can I be upset right? I mean, they won't have to PAY if it is scheduled!
sjl1017 I think it has to be down for 2 hours or Ebay won't do anything in the way of repaying costs or extending...Like I wanted it extended! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!
Pardon me folks...I am venting. Bad night...I am not usually like this...REALLY!

Yesterday it was a problem launching. Today it is a problem with closing for those auctions closing after the shutdown. BTW, I had a scheduled launch for 4:00 PM EDT today that did not go off so I had to launch immediately about 3 hours later. If I had my choice of problems I would prefer launch problems over problems with my auction closing during a shutdown. The latter can cost you bigtime money. An example was the poster above who mentioned the auction losing out on an extra $100.

Sure down in So. Ca. Tried quick search and no luck. They did admit that the site was unavailable (no functionality this time) but they were working on it and to try the announcement board but that timed out on me. Too bad they keep adding features when they cannot make what they already have stable.

you all need to relax a little bit. When I tried my hand at ebay last year for the first time I had a model car kit that was about to end when the site crashed. It was at approx $400 the site came back up and the auction was extended then it crashed again hence another extension. Long and short: I sold th emodel kit for over $600. Just be patient. You all talk about yahoo but you know the money is at ebay. I don't know why but it just is, so hang tight.

No sjl1017, there are no extentions, no refunds, nothing..nada..zilch from E-Bay! We pay them, they keep the money! They go down, we are out the money! Tough nugies to us! Welcome to the world of E-Bay selling! We are the underdogs, the ones who get stepped on by E-Bay's outages, Paypals blunders and fees, etc...etc...etc... Oh isn't it a joy?

This is one advantage of Ductch auctions. You might sell fewer items because of a shutdown but you don't really lose money if you set the auction at what you expect to get.

Sigh...
The problem with being down like this is the average buyer likely tried ebay a couple of times, and if it's dead... they don't come back... so as sellers... we lose the whole damn night..
Had some bidders going back and forth on my auction... and I had a feeling that there was going to some last minute action... and then EBAY GOES DOWN.
Plain and simple... I lost money tonight.

It never ceases to amaze me how a company that depends on site stability doesn't seem to care that the site never works properly.
I subscribe to TAG notes and according to their reportage, there is never a day when everything works, there's ALWAYS something down.
"Site stability is our main priority." said some high placed ebay person upon her assuming her high mucky muck position.
Main priority after let's see Gunpoint, image hosting,Ebay motors, and every other boondoggle she could concieve.
Yahoo has in the neighborhood of 2.5 Million auctions- do you see this crap going on over there????
Remember when Ebay had 2.5 M auctions- they were down as often (or more) as they are now. Yahoo doesn't have these problems. WHY????
It comes down to Management's actually caring enough to FIX the problems and getting competent people to do it.
If the will was there-they'd put all these assinine new ideas on the backburner and fix the site stability. But the will for anything except gouging the customer seems to be absent.(Of course if the yutzes working on the systems are REALLY as incompetent as we seem to think, then all the will in the world won't fix Humpty.)
I don't want to come off as a Yahoo cheerleader but Ebay could learn quite a bit from them. (Assuming they could shelve the arrogance long enough to believ they COULD learn something from someone else.)

5 Minutes?? Don't you just love the eBay clock? You can't get to the auction pages to bid but that must be a minor detail.
Looks like eBay is getting ready for another no functionality Christmas.
Vorlon: Actually eBay was down more when there were 600,000 or fewer auctions.

featherwings said, "a back-up system is all it takes!"
I've been away a while. Whatever happened to the hot backup eBay was supposed to be working on? Seems they should have it up and going by now.

D-UH!
The light just went on over my head.
The reason they don't care about site stability is because of the way the fee structure is, they get our money whether the site's up or down. You pay up front you pay again at the back- and if you don't make as much as you want- too bad, so sad- they get their cut of whatever you made.
They don't HAVE to care! They get paid either way.
I'm so dense sometimes I scare myself.
