valerie47--You live in a beautiful place--"gorgeous" in fact I heard the hospital I was born in has been torn down. My Mom said it was really neat--her room had a view of the lake--and I was born in September--a very pretty time of year where the leaves turn color. Ah...but that was 49 years ago. I suppose a lot has changed--but I know it is still a pretty place.

cybercat--who is now in Houston where the leaves don't change color--they don't even fall sometimes!

edited to say: Darn! I was browsing eBay Canada--and now it is cratering on me!

Not surprised...something was fishy even yesterday when it took search 10 hours to index new auctions.

Think about it. Ebay goes down every evening about the time that the West coast people come on line.

I'll bet that due to the onslaught of people coming on line that the eBay system can't handle the load.

This has made me change my strategy to listing my auctions earlier and having them end earlier in the evening.

Imagine what it will be like during the Christmas holiday rush when all buyers and sellers want to be on line at the same time.

I think the worst is yet to come!!!

Seems to be and up and down thing. Got a bid in and seconds later, the search went down again. Figure that if you are unlucky enough to have an auction end during the downtime, you lose. The two hour timeframe seems like a ripoff. If an online brokerage house functioned this way, they would be out of business. The trouble is that for hard to find rare items , Ebay has no competition.

Doesn't it seem ironic that Ebay purchased all their servers from the low bidder?

SJL; I had this happen to me months ago; Ebay gave me more time on the auctions, like the 'blink' never happened. I had them all closing at like, 6pm and suddenly they all ended at midnight..... took me ages to figure out what I did! Hopefully they'll 'extend' the time of all the auctions so perhaps all has not been in vain and you'll get even more bidders

One more time - ebaYs site essential functions - My ebaY and search went down at 18:00:40 and was down, up and down and up again at 20:27:53 with My ebaY still not working. Because of the Watch feature, My ebaY is now an essential feature without which bidders can not find the auctions they are bidding on. When My ebaY, search or access to auction listings are down - sellers should apply for refunds.

To request refunds go to the form at

http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SendSupportEmailShow&subject=Credit%20--%
20How%20can%20I%20receive%20credit%20for%20insertion%20fees%3F%20
Send -
* The item number(s) of the ended auction(s) * The specific fee(s) charged for them
* Your seller's email address or User ID
* The phrase, GIVE CREDIT in the Subject line This can also be accessed from http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/select-support.html
If you want to have more close up and personal contact with ebaY, go to the The Auction Guild Site www.auctionguild.com for ebaY contact info. If you want to get Megs voicemail or her Assistant, or Pierres voicemail, email [email protected]

I get so tired of the lies !!!

Also - For anyone who is denied refunds by ebaY - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! email me at [email protected]

If I remember correctly eBay has a habit of changing or deleting the page to request credit. Or at least burying it so it is not easy to find.

My god you people whine! Look into the cost of your own website or even a brick and mortar! Would anyone come in? Ebay is fair at twice the cost! (shhh! don't tell them) If it bothers you when they go down you need to get a life. Who was it said they'd be looking out the window like a ten year old if AW went down too? I bet they'd just sit and stare at their monitor. I for one love ebay and always will. My 3 kids Birthday presents last year? Paid for buy selling a $5 garage sale model for $600. Go Ebay! My families christmas? A $500 auction putchase of mechanics tools on ebay sold for about $2000! Go ebay! How'd I buy my digital camera? Go Ebay! How did I buy my laptop? o ebay!!! And all the while working a regular job to feed my family, pay the mortgage and put in my 401K. So relax guys!

Soooo... Spuddy98...

I'll bet that you got those pom-poms on eBay REAL CHEAP too, huh?

Strikes me a bit odd to post that stuff to this thread almost 12 hours after the outages. While we are all just *thrilled* for you and all your success, the discussion really had more to do with the functionality issues of the site and the revisionest version of what occurred as put out by ebay.

Spuddy: Gee, it sure is easy for you to say get a life and stop whining. How nice for you that everything works out so well selling and buying on eBay for a little extra cash or buying presents.

Would be raising the flag so high if selling on eBay was your business? Would you be singing the same song when it goes down or isn't functioning and you had to take a huge loss and try to figure out how you were going to feed your family, pay the mortgage, and drop a few $$ into your 401(k)?

This isn't whining. This is a question of paying for a service that isn't being provided. This is a question of eBay looking for ways to avoid reimbursing the fees paid for the service, or making up the auction time for the paid services.

spuddy98 What would the family Christmas have been like if your $500 tools were sitting there with snipers and watchers just waiting to get in and then the system went down, but according to the Ebay clock (which seems to run slower than RL clocks when the system is down) it wasn't down long enough to extend or get credit? So, you had bids of say $600 on your $500 tools which you had to pay listing and FVF's on as well. The family's Christmas wouldn't have been quite so merry now would it?

We pay for a 24/7 service (knowing that they have to do maintenance and have some time down, which they tell us about so that we can list around those scheduled outages)they promised that they would have hot backups which I don't think we have ever seen (HAS anyone ever seen the hot backups work?).

I don't do Ebay for my bread and butter. My Ebaying is for the "extras" and to remove the clutter from my home. Even so, I like to make a profit on my items and when I pay for a service I want the service that I paid for.

At any rate, I have the right to grumble, whether it is my "Christmas" money or it is my House Payment because I paid for a service which was not provided.

<grumble><grumble><grumble><grumble>

Here it is 9:00 PM EDT Wednesday and I am getting reset messages trying to look at auction pages. This looks suspiciously like a pattern. What is the magic of 9:00 PM EDT, or 6:00 PM PDT ?
