Nope! It's a men's jacket, and it's made by a pretty well-known men's clothing designer. I don't think they even make women's clothing.

I'd guess Brooks Brothers. Looks like the sports-coat version of what Brahmins call "go-to-hells" - slacks made of e.g. loud Madras-plaid patchwork, orange corduroy with little golfers machine-embroidered every couple inches, that sort of thing.

Nope! I'm wondering if maybe this designer isn't as popular as I thought! I just know whenever I sell something with this name I ALWAYS sell it....

OK, Valerie, this is bugging me so bad that I'm going through 587 of your auctions to find out!!!

Although, I will say--too bad I'm pregnant right now or I would be bidding on a couple of things...maybe next year!

monster

Edited to say 587 auctions-not 487. And, how about Geoffrey Beene??

OK, please, please, please, tell us who the designer is. I've been through 24 pages of your auctions, and I can't find it. My only other guess would be Towncraft.

And, PLEASE don't make me wait until morning to read the answer! That would be too cruel!!!

Wanna clue? Initials are HF. These initials are also embroidered inside all of the men's sportcoats by this designer.

OK, it IS Hickey Freeman! I finally found the auction. And, I'm sorry to say, it's even uglier with four pictures than with just the one we saw here!! (If I could do a smiley face, I would)

BTW, Valerie, I must say your auctions are great! The layout and everything. If any of your customers say it wasn't described properly, they're LYING!!!

Thanks for finally ending this game-I am a terrible detective!

Edited because the pregnant woman can't spell!!

Idlemonster:

You are right! Congratulations! Someone finally guessed it!!

Now don't you think Hickey Freeman is a really good designer name? Or is it just me? I've always had good luck with them.

And thanks for the comments on my auctions!

Now the question is: Does anyone want to buy this beauty? LOL

So who wants to start the bidding?

I thought of Hickey Freeman as a manufacturer, not a designer. If I recall correctly they made the "Johnny Carson" suits (or was that Hart/Schaffner/Marx?), and a lot of them were pretty scary. But the quality of workmanship is outstanding.

Hey, hey, that jacket would fit right in at my country club. Don't laugh! Add the green trousers and you are all set!

Some people play golf just so they can wear wacky clothes!

The quality of workmanship is over the top! I sew, and I know how damned hard it is to get those plaids to match, especially on an angle, like at the sleeve end.

I always think of Hickey Freeman as a sort of "Eastern Establishment" kinda designer, who appeals to the Brooks Bros. crowd. Impeccable, but not real fashionable.

Hasn't anybody seen or heard of "Forever Plaid," the hilarous musical revue/play about a "boy group" from the 50s sorta reminiscent of the Four Freshmen? What do you suppose the Freshmen wore at their concerts? Madras plaid was BIG for a time in the late 1950s-early 1960s.
