I notice you skim over one part of your quote to concentrate on one party:

"Fiscal conservatives were defeated soundly by Republicans and Democrats on attempts to deepen the spending cuts."

That means 23 Republicans as well as one Independent voted against this measure as well.

I also notice that the Washington Times doesn't give all of what Senator Conrad said (no surprise there).

In reality he had a good reason for his opposition: "But North Dakota Sen. Kent Conrad, the top Democrat on the Budget Committee, said the budget-cutting bill was just "the first chapter." The next chapter, he said, was a bill calling for $70 billion in tax cuts and the result would be higher deficits."

As I have already said--when you keep cutting tax yet still spend what you don't have you just run up more debt for future generations to deal with.

edited to put an "n" where it would do the most good.

lol bunni

As is normal....all political issues can and are looked at in two different ways.

In this situation, with the number of republicans voting to 'cap' spending....it left the outcome of the vote in the democrats hands....had THEY decided they REALLY wanted fiscal constraint on spending...THEY could have changed the outcome of future spending. BUT they didn't.

They and liberals/lefties will complain all the time about how much this Republican congress is spending....but when push comes to shove, all can see NOT ONE dem voted to restrain spending. NOT ONE!!!

And why the American Voters chose to RE-elect President Bush to four more years. YES!!!

Another recent thing the Bush administration just got passed....the $35B budget cuts.

Even though both of my DEMOCRATIC Senators voted, as usual for a democrat, NO...against cutting spending.

Deficit Reduction Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 2005

- Vote Passed (52-47, 1 Not Voting)

The Senate capped a long day of votes with passage of this 2006 budget reconciliation bill intended to trim $35 billion from the deficit.

Sen. Blanche Lincoln voted NO......

Sen. Mark Pryor voted NO......

------

Oh yes, we should be SURE and vote democrats into office in 2006....they'll want to spend LESS money.....sure...right....how funny.
