I would kinda like to see a couple of the cowboys I've known in a fruity floral coat though. I bet I could sell tickets...

Actually I attended the United States Equestrian Team selection trials for the reining championships this year. What some of those guys had on would have made Liberace jealous.

What is this, "Real Men Don't Wear Floral"?

HCQ: Thanks for the link on the "oilcloth." Those shown are gorgeous. But I have to tell you, geeeee whiz, I picked up your message on my e-mail, clicked on the link you gave, couldn't get it, so clicked on it again with a right click, couldn't pick it up even then, so hit 'unscramble" for some weird reason, and it has now scrambled all my e-mail and I can't seem to get back in to change this. You're an expert on a lot of things--can you help me fix my mess?

HCQ--Never mind! Magically all my e-mail messages are okay now--they looked before as though they were written in Lithuanian or Swedish! LOL. Wish this whole computer business wasn't such dark magic for me, still.

...maybe it was just the scary pomegranates and tulips

I am the LAST person on earth to ask about anything computerwise. Hard to believe I used to fix these things....back before the 386....OTOH I never was very good at it!

Actually I am a floorcloth artist

They did used to call them "oylcloths" and became very popular in the colonies in the 1700 & 1800's, they were the poorer man's carpet.

When linoleum was introduced, floorcloth artistry became a thing of the past. There is now a revival of floorcloths, which I am a part of

labelle, what do you use for a "canvas"? I've seen everything used, from gessoed canvas to the "wrong" side of sheet vinyl flooring (seems to me the only aesthetically appealing use of this material - but remind me of this smart remark next time I'm grousing about waxing our wood floors )

Okay I have another Q here.
I know I am taking up way more than my share of HCQ's time, however I know there are people in the bleachers who are learning, so here goes.

This is my next puzzle. What is this fabric called besides COOL!

Thanks

Hart-I use 10 & 12 OZ 100% cotton canvas. (fairly traditional). Some artists do use the back of vinyl, some use the back side of linoleum too, as well as thick heavy-duty felt (although I've never tried it).

The hardest thing is educating buyers about this medium, many don't understand it or can't conceptualize it very readily. Telling people it's been around for hundreds of years seems to help some

Hard to tell without a closeup, but it looks like tapestry to me - commercially woven, I'd bet within the past 10 years, mostly cotton. I just sold an odd-shaped piece, less than a yard, with sort of a Matisse motif for $7.50. It retails for $15-50/yard, but you can buy it in remnants at most fabric places for much less than that, so unless it's really really REALLY cool (like yours), it usually goes for about what I got.

Yours is a particularly marketable design because of its playing card motif.

Thick, heavy-duty felt, labelle? Hmm. I can't even picture it, but I'm sure some creative person has figured how how to do it
