Wonder what it would cost to ship a cranky dragon to Iceland?
With pretty stamps, of course.

I ain't talking rip off---I'm talking about a reasonable small amount that does not have to be justified in nickel and dime reports to the buyer.

lotsafuzz - you just reminded me that I started a whole thread on Pretty Stamps, then promptly forgot to get any for the buyer who wanted them! Gosh, I'd better brace myself for a negative any day now.

I charge a fixed rate on shipping.
I usually just round up to 4-5 bucks.
But I sell about 80% of all my items for $9.99 or less so the customer still gets their money's worth.
Sometimes (If I really want to get rid of something) I do free shipping in the continental US (and nail everyone in Alaska and Hawaii - especially the Canadians !) HAHAHA

Why is it that when someone says they want a fight, they can't get one, but someone can post asking for help and it turns the forum into the WWF?
Personally, I post fixed shipping that includes ground shipping to the US, even though I live in Canada. Sometimes I end up overcharging, sometimes undercharging, but it all evens out. And I think most Americans think I've undercharged them, since the postage marked on the parcel is in Canadian dollars.
Spreading guilt throughout the States,

Personally I charge a really high fixed shipping rate and use one roll of duct tape per package - after they get done spending hours trying to open the d*mn package they tend to forget how much I've charged them for shipping! It's called 'Behavior Redirection Packaging'
Also on a side note..I've noticed these new packing peanuts that resemble the droppings of large dogs showing up in my packages lately. I've been really tempted to spray paint these big peanuts brown and send them in my 'stinker' customer's packages just for fun. Oh, the look of surprise when they open that package! Of course I will tack on $1.00 handling charge for the honor or receiving it.
Of course, I do none of this but wanted to offer some suggestions for creative packaging to give your customer their monies worth!

stormweaver---I know an even better trick for Canadian sellers---I don't have a business account with Canada Post yet---put if you do---the cost of your postage is not shown on your package. hehehehehehe.....
But I think the same way you do---sometimes I lose in the shipping--bully for the customer---sometimes I gain--bully for me.

I like to keep it simple. Except for a very few unusually heavy items, all my items have the SAME fixed shipping rate. Don't have to think about it. Don't have to change the EOA template. Win some, lose some. But with Cdn$ postage on the package, there has never been a complaint.

Canadians are sure LUCKY! Everything is SO CHEAP! Darn tootin'! Ya betcha and all that stuff!
I think that if the USPS can raise the postage on a whim (an average of something like 4.2% I believe they said!--uh huh!), I should be able to use triple boxing and a whole roll of tape on each box.
But, before I stick the little devil in there, I want to wrap it in 23 layers of buble wrap--each layer taped with 1/2 roll of priority tape.
And charge them for each and every inch of bubble wrap and all of the boxes and tape--even thought the boxes and tape are FREE! Who cares! I had to take the time to ORDER them and then bring them into the house when they were DELIVERED! That should be worth SOMETHING!
Kind of reminds me of Chirstmas past when I saw a HUGE box under the tree for me. After opening about 20 boxes, I got to a SUCKER in the small inside box! LOL
My brother--what a card!
