* In the 18 months following the 911 attacks I have successfully prevented any public investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States.
* Removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history.
* In a little over two years created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided the US has ever been since the civil war.
* Entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

Its getting much harder to be a Republican these days the transparency coming from the 110th Congress is killing them.

Being a BUSHY new-con lawmaker in power forget it. Most are already gone either in jail or out of power and the rest will be in 2008 along with DUMBO.

So grunter and squirrelly keep your eyes and ears open Congress will let you know soon what you don't want to hear.

Someone needs to INFORM him that "Congress" consists of TWO HOUSES...the House and the Senate.

Like has been said before - WHEN they actually accomplish anything...be sure and wake us.

Hey all new-con liars.

Today the 110th Congress passed a bill reducing interest rates on student loans for college.

Under BUSHY new-con congress they cut student aid by 15 billion dollars and gave that money to the rich.

Looks like the 110th Congress will have to get after that money sooner or later. YES!!!

More Senators and Congress people are not supporting BUSHY on a daily basis.

The good news is there is not a thing you neo-cons on this board can do about it.

You more than had your change and because of greed,wacko religious ideas,criminal activities and most of all poor leadership you blew it.

House seeks more oil royalties, kills tax breaks

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) smiles during a news conference on the legislation passed in the first 100 legislative hours of the 110th Congress in the Capitol in Washington January 18, 2007.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The new Democratic-led House of Representatives passed legislation on Thursday aimed at "Big Oil" that would roll back some industry tax breaks and force energy companies to pay more drilling royalties, valued at $14 billion over 10 years.

Breaking News Alerts Passage of the bill by a vote of 264-163 capped House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's 100-hour agenda, which included measures to raise the minimum wage, lower student loan interest rates and bolster homeland security.

The $14 billion raised from the additional royalties and repealed tax breaks would fund research for renewable energy sources. The measure must be approved by the Senate and the president before it becomes law.

Keep up your good work Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the 110th Congress.

We have the republican lawmakers surrounded and will be watching their every move and vote. The 2008 elections is just a comma in time away.

From an article in the Boston Globe.

"Many of the flawed 100 hours bills either face an uphill battle in the Senate or are destined for a veto pen," said Minority leader John Boehner, Republican of Ohio.

President Bush has threatened to veto two of the bills -- one to expand stem cell research and another to force the government to negotiate the prices of prescription drugs under Medicare. Last year, he vetoed a similar stem cell bill -- the only time he's wielded the veto pen.

All of the bills face change in the Senate, where rules and a much slimmer Democratic majority assure a more prominent role for Republicans.

And the House and Senate would have to agree on the language of any bill before it is sent to President Bush for his signature or a veto.

I mean after all....we COULD have done as the dems were recommending...RAISED THE TAXES ON GASOLINE.....and made it so much better for consumers.

What's the matter with you?

AND now that oil prices are around $50.00 a barrel, compared to where they were [approx] $79.00 a barrel.....can't you SEE that Bush SHOULD have just quit purchasing oil?

After all I KNOW 'waco'peepa could tell us just how this President COULD have taken charge and FORCED OPEC nations to not charge us so much.

On the 'college loans'

<snip>

Some Republicans, the White House and other critics said the bill will not help current students pay high tuition costs because it is aimed at those who already have graduated.

Republicans also noted that the measure would provide the lowest 3.4 percent interest rate for just six months in 2011, after which it would revert back to the current 6.8 percent.

    "This bill does nothing to expand the opportunity for kids to go to college," said Rep. Rob Bishop, Utah Republican.
=====

<snip>

An Office of Management and Budget memo this week argued that the bill could drive up tuition costs by encouraging more student debt. But the White House stopped short of a veto threat, saying the Bush administration would support grants for low-income students and work with Congress on a "comprehensive approach" to improving access to higher education.

Both Republicans and the White House stressed that ****education institutions need to join the effort****.
----
<snip>

The current bill is expected to cost about $6 billion over five years.

    Rep. Phil Gingrey, Georgia Republican, said the idea was good for a "quick sound-bite" on the campaign trail but that 90 percent of the promises have disappeared.

    The conservative House Republican Study Committee (RSC) said in a policy memo that federal aid for higher education nearly doubled in the past decade, which some researchers think has contributed to increased tuition rates.

"As the federal and state governments absorb an increasingly large portion of college expenses, institutions of higher education can raise tuition at taxpayers' expense," the RSC memo said.

===================

here wacopeepa - you might want to read this blog once in a while.....you might LEARN something. maybe...

Imo, those who have already graduated can/are/will be able to pay off their OWN debt. And then still support themselves well. They don't need help like those who can't afford college at all...don't qualify for loans...etc.
===================

Taken from Accuracy in Media website....

The Democrats Student Loan Deception

In an attempt by the Democrats to show that they are interested in education have announced that they plan to introduce legislation to cut interest rates on students loans in half from the current 6.8 percent.

On the surface this sounds like a great idea and that's what they want the public to think, that this effort will make college more accessible.

The reality is that accessibility has nothing to do with the rates on student loans, but more on family income and financial aid.

Also since student loans aren't repaid until after graduation chopping the interest rate has no immediate effect on students' budgets.

Since student loans are subsidized by the government the net effect of this proposed cut will be an additional $6 billion burden on taxpayers over five years.

The Democrats plan to offset this burden by reducing the guaranteed rate the lending institutions receive for making the loans, increasing the fee they charge the lenders to handle the loan and reducing the guarantee rate on loans that are defaulted.

These measures will cover about one third of the $6 billion figure leaving the taxpayers to foot the rest of the bill at this point.

In their zeal to go after big business, the Democrats are forgetting that when you increase the cost and lower the profits, businesses react by cutting back and reducing options.

In this case student borrowers will be hurt more than helped as fewer choices will mean less accessibility not more.

The problem with accessibility and affordability really doesn't lie with the student loan program since financial aid programs have gone from $9.6 billion to $48 billion in the last 5 years, but is largely due to the rapid increases in tuition.

According to the College Board, the average tuition adjusted for inflation has jumped 86 percent at public colleges and 52 percent at private colleges since the 1991-92 school year during a period of low inflation.

Loans are capped so students don't take on excessive debt, tuition isn't.

If the Democrats really wanted to help students then maybe they should be taking aim at the schools that have raised tuitions with impunity to pay for higher faculty salaries and fatten their already large endowments.

But since academia is largely a bastion for liberal thought that would be like biting the hand that feeds them and so the schools are safe from any attack by the party.

Unfortunately the students who should be fighting this change have been lied to and misled by the media and the Democrats and by the time they realize what has happened it will be too late.

Former Congressman Sentenced to Prison
(R)Ney Gets 30 Months for Role in Bribery

Scandal
By MATT APUZZO
AP
WASHINGTON (Jan. 19) - Former (R)Rep. Bob Ney was sentenced Friday to 30 months in federal prison for his role in a congressional bribery scandal.

Fall From Grace

Ney, the first congressman ensnared in the case, pleaded guilty to trading official favors for golf trips, tickets, meals and campaign donations from disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

U.S. District Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle said that Ney would serve his time at a federal prison in Morgantown, West Virginia.

When he is released, the judge said, Ney will serve another two years on probation and pay a $6,000 fine. She also ordered him into a prison alcohol rehabilitation program for treatment of a drinking problem he has acknowledged in recent months.

The sentence was harsher than recommended by prosecutors or Ney's lawyers, Huvelle said, because Ney had violated the trust place on him as a public official. "Both your constituents and the public trusted you to represent them honestly," she said.

Ney apologized to his family and constituents during a brief speech to the judge.

"I will continue to take full responsibility, accept the consequences and battle the demons of addiction that are within me," he said.

Earlier, Ney's defense team filed letters from his doctor and a former staff member who described his drinking problems and how they accelerated when he came under scrutiny in the Abramoff lobbying scandal.

HEY GRUNT, YA GOTTA ADMIT THE "ACCELERATED DRINKING PROBLEM" AFTER NEY WAS CAUGHT WITH HIS HAND IN THE COOKIE JAR IS VERY FUNNY.

You may be right, Stonecold....after all he does mostly just repeat the same thing over and over...
=================

I think that increasing all educational funding from "financial aid programs have gone from $9.6 billion to $48 billion in the last 5 years, but is largely due to the rapid increases in tuition.....

is WAY too much ALREADY. Especially for those who constantly WHINE about the deficit.

After adults graduate from college/university they now have what they need to pay off their own bills. I understand they don't WANT to do so....neither do I ...for them. They have benefitted...and now they can pay their own bills. Might have to wait a while on buying those fancy homes, expensive cars, etc....but they have the means to now do it for themselves.

Imo, this is nothing more than working for the day when the gov. pays for all college educations...rather than the parents helping out...or paying for it all because THEY CAN....or borrowing the money and paying it back....OR working while going to college....as millions have done before them.

Under the Dome reported last week on how the freshman senators were all-too-eager to take turns presiding over the chamber from the Senate pro tem?s chair. They may be, but they've been showing their inexperience with the customs of the upper chamber.

One sharp-eared tipster caught a few rookie mistakes emanating from gavel-holders Thursday.

Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) at one point was attempting to call to order the unruly Senate after a vote, so that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) could speak. He banged the gavel and said authoritatively, "Have order in the House!"

Someone on the floor responded, "House?"

Tester hastily corrected himself. "The Senate. My mistake."

A few minutes later, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) took her turn in the chair. "Are there any senators in the gallery wishing to vote or change their vote?? she asked.

The mistake? Senators can't vote from the gallery, only from the floor. "Although," our tipster opined, "it would be a lot more fun if they could."

Give 'em a little time to get up to speed, we say.
