dixiesgranny I think the secret of clear closeups is holding the camera steady, almost impossible just 2" or less away. So I took that picture outside in the sun in a ring box, on the deck railing. I put something under the back of the box to make it stand up almost straight then I rested the camera on the railing so it was very steady. Hardest part was keeping shade from the camera off the ring. I have an even better picture of the ring & tried to post it earlier in the thread, but it wouldn't show so I used this one. Take several pictures of your item, keep the best & delete the rest. It's important to keep at it until you get what you want & don't settle for less. You will find almost everything you would ever want to know about your camera at AW message board. Just go all the way to the bottom & click on site search & then type in Sony Mavica & click both boxes for search. You'll be amazed at what you will learn.

This is a good thread. It appears to me that so many Ebay sellers use the Sony Mavica is the ease of taking close-ups and loading them on to their pc.
We have some software that allows us to use our cam-corder to capture still photos and, for Ebay, it has been wonderful. Now we are looking at digital cameras for everyday family use, and it is important to us to be able to take outdoor shots of family and scenery, vacation type photos, and we found the Mavica wasn't really appropriate for us. We are seriously looking at a Canon digital because it is similar in operation to our Canon cam-corder.
So, just be sure that if you want your digital camera for uses outside of Ebay, you might want to look around at some of the others available.
