I check the completed auctions on eBay and list my items with a buy price in the same price range. What do higher opening bids have to do with anything in this thread?
Oh so now it's "I", well alot of other "I's" have shown you that Ebay is the place to be and if there are Higher opening bids doesn't the seller expect more profit? So very relevent to this thread. I think it is you that are confusing which topic is being discussed and you might want to lock this one up and try again.
You won the award, what more do you want?

twelvepole, I have better idea. Why don't you start your own thread and see if you can say something coherent enough to get a response.

bidville is a new site and therefore this time is transitional. Over the months buyers will discover it also.
I disagree that some of the smaller items are "junk". Take ballcards for example. Someone may be looking for a card to complete a set and not want to buy several boxes to find it or looking for just a certain team. You are pleasing a customer who may come back to your auctions later looking for something else. And if you do a good job by the customer, (prompt service, etc.) then you'll get a good rating often. The higher your rating, the more people are willing to buy from you.

That wasn't an attack, it was a challenge. Why don't you start your own thread on the "All Other Auctions" board and slap people in the face with your "logic and truth".
I realize you're very comfortable adding your pro-eBay rhetoric with so many eBay sellers here to support you, but this is not a true measure of the validity of your "logic and truth".

Spreland,
Your comments are disruptive and off-topic. I have asked you to address the topic not the individual. Obviously, you chose to disegard that request. I'm upgrading your informal to a formal warning.
Twelvepole,
Your post is pretty close to the line, too. I suggest the use of your ignore button as well.

NOW CAN WE GIVE THIS POOR DEAD HORSE A PROPER BURIAL?????
A few final reflections that came out of all these "FREE vs FEE" threads:
eBay is not the only site to auction on.
Free sites work for some people, depending on their needs/goals.
You shouldn't necessarily avoid trying other sites.
Not everyone is going to agree because there is no one thing that works for everyone.
What ever works for you, is what you should do!
And finally, and probably most important:
NEVER USE THE "M" WORD WHEN PAT IS ON DUTY ESPECIALLY AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO!!!!!!!
AMEN
edited due to "Happy Fingers" doing "Happy Dance" on keyboard and to say thanks to Pat.

Just as (keeping with the Valentine spirit) there is a "special someone" for everyone, there is an optimal auction for every seller. I'm sure places like Bidville work fine for some segment of sellers. It may even be that, by dint of being a low-cost category, its a good place for people who sell (for example) trading cards to go (sort of a "niche" auction that certainly can prosper in the shadow of ebay).
However, the bigger issue is that "free" auctions, like the dinosaur before them, are a doomed species, at least insofar as large, general merchandise auctions go.
It would certainly be an amusing experiment to have even 10% of ebay's items (another 500,000) show up on bidville. Bring your self-contained breathing apparatus, since the air would be fouled from the smoke coming from the overburdened servers...

Perhaps a little too biased on the Moderator's part.
Twelvepole ask Spreland why dont you RESPOND to my question.
Spreland says because its nonsensical.
Twelvepole suggests that Spreland close the thread down
Spreland suggests that Twelvepole start his own thread and see if people RESPOND.
Twelvepole accuses Spreland of personal attack. (Moderator appears on cue)
Spreland says no personal attack. It is a challange to see if twelvepole's logic would hold up with a non-ebay crowd.
Moderator says Spreland's comments are disruptive. (Huh??? Come again???)
Spreland commits obvious talk board suicide.
The moderator was really out of line on this one. I know you can suspend me too. I don't really care.

The truly ironic thing about this kind of situation is that the suspended user effectively gives "the opposition" the last word/laugh, except perhaps for some obvious and feeble newly-created-fake-ID last-gasp posts that are caught immediately and serve merely to diminish the remaining reputation/credibility of the suspended person.
Adding to the irony is that having the last word is often incredibly important to these folks, yet all they can do is watch helplessly.
oh well...

Not exactly. The commentary is ongoing in my Yahoo Club "Seller Zone Uncensored". I can (and do) respond to any comment posted by anyone on these boards. No moderators. No censorship. If you need protection from the moderators, better stay here where its safe. I just posted my review of AW as the most entertaining site in cyberspace.

spreeland:
LOL. The flaw in your "logic" is that NO ONE bothers with your Yahoo club. (Just for laughs, I went to your club - it has a whopping 10, count 'em, 10 members!) Feel free to "answer" me there if it makes you feel good, but here at AW you are history. Of course you can continue to invent userids for awhile, and issue one-post-then-kicked "rebuttals", but eventually either you will get tired of it, or AW's lawyers will pay you a visit.
In the meantime, we, the "opposition", will continue on here just fine, where thousands of reasonable people visit to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
Moderators:
Perhaps this thread should be locked, as it seems to be just attracting suspended user(s) who just can't agree to abide by a simple set of common sense rules regarding behavior?

I've been honored!!!!
spreeland has chosen to personally attack me, and only me, from amongst all the people here at AW who have disagreed with her, at her yahoo club with my name "in lights" as a posting topic. The halls of her club, with her "many" followers, ring with her strident denunciation of me. I haven't been similarly honored since, oh, the fifth grade!
I want to thank everyone who helped make this honor possible: My family, Yahoo, AW, the moderators, and, of course, spreeland!
I know that the rest of you here are insanely jealous of me. However, with hard work, perhaps you, too, can achieve this exalted position.
(I'm really just wasting time until this thread gets locked...).
