It's that little problem I have. I love money! Send me theirs too! Take it and gladly pay the fees. Simple as that. Show me a better way and I'm there...

With PayPal, we don’t have the paper trail, and there’s certainly an element of error.

Create your own "paper trail". Just print the transaction details and you'll have more info on one sheet of paper than most bidders send through the mail.

As a buyer I love it! Do not have to go to the oost office or bank to get a money order or check and can pay for the item right after the auction closes and be done with it.
I buy online why wouldn't I pay online?

I accept PayPal, MoneyZap, Billpoint, and BidPay as well as money orders.....NO CHECKS!

PayPal is great. On the one chargeback I got, I have to take partial responsibility and really cannot blame them. Otherwise, not a single complaint as a buyer or seller!

A very large percentage of my sales are paid through PayPal.

As a buyer I often use Paypal - MOs are free for me at my bank...but I don't need an extra errand and you can't get them from an ATM! The people that hold checks for a month have decreased my interest in that form of payment! As a seller, my sales have increased somewhat since I began accepting Paypal and Billpoint although I'm pondering eliminating them on low priced items.

Accept paypal on a limited basis. When I do buy, I will use it if I have money in the account.
I use it cautiously, I don't entirely trust them as of now. I'm hoping that will change. Overall the experience has been good.

I love the convenience ! Auctions end in the evening, payments come in within minutes and I print out the lables, next morning I make my trip to the PO and the stuff is gone.

I have not had a problem getting my money from Paypal when I ask for it and so far they have not made any mistakes with my account. The service is much better than when they first started out and I for one am very greatful for this. Now, if I can just stay on top of the improvements . . . .

the above person was not paid for their opinion but all donations are accepted

I still can't sleep and I still don't have a name for my thingies. (but I sold them anyway)

edit cause I UBB like a New-be-be

We use it, both to buy and accept payment. About 35% is done with PP, the rest check and monney order. However, our sales went up 10% when we started using it, so until they make a mistake with us, I will continue to use it.

In the begining, God created the heavens and the earth.

I don't take Paypal, There are enough hands in my pocket, thank you.

99% of my customers still pay me!
(1% are deadbeats)

I don't use Paypal, Why should I if I'm not too lazy to get MO or write a check.

Except for an off week here and there my sales are as good as ever, though overall ending prices have been dropping a little each year since I started in '98. My sell through rate hovers around 77% and always has. Many of the no sells are items I experiment with.

No consequences whatsoever here for not taking Paypal.

About 2 in 8 or 10 sales someone asks me if I take it even tho it clearly and boldly says I don't in my auctions. I guess that means that a signifigant number of paypal users are extremely stupid.

Yes, I accept PayPal and also use it to buy.

My auction percentages are about 65% PayPal transactions to 35% money orders and checks.

I take PayPal, about 1/2 my customers use it or pay us direct via our own merchant account.... very few customers use Money Orders or Checks any longer.

Although we are registered with BillPoint, I tried it briefly, greatly disliked it, and don't offer it to my customers.

I personally LOVE PayPal.

Hi all,

Thank you much for the kind comments on the service and I am glad that it has been of benefit to many of you.

When I read about buyers and why they use the service, a couple of things become apparent---

1. They don't have to leave their desk to do a transaction. Convenience is a major factor in buying decisions, regardless of industry.
2. They can use their credit card. This can lead, in some cases, to a potential increase in bidding prices. (Sellers that fear charge backs can be protected from them with the Seller Protection Program.)
3. They can pay with their bank account. The benefit to the seller is that the funds are good (no bounced checks) and the sender is a verified account holder (further identified in our system).

Thanks again!

Have a wonderful weekend.

we were just talking about that...do you think our rate of 1.8%(thru costco--nova)would be better than paypal and how about the customers being some what leary of cc info provided over internet---most of them are already ready to go with paypal.

If you are doing as much business as you say... forget screwing with paypal
and just set up a checkout at your website using a merchant account payment
gateway. I can help you set one up if you need help.

I use PayPal primarily as a seller. About 90% of my payments come through them.

I also found that I got more bids per item once I started taking PayPal. People are willing to pay more if they can pay for it with plastic, I guess.

I don't buy much on eBay (maybe one item every few months) but when I do, I prefer to use PayPal.

PayPal only recently became available to the UK. I signed up but never used the account as I can't transfer the money to a checking account - this feature was / is only available to US citizens. Not much use to me as I sell more than I buy.

Today i've been looking into E-gold and i've read a ton of really awfull stuff about PayPal. This concerns people commiting credit card fraud and PayPal then freezing and confiscating all monies from the unwitting sellers' account.

Some how I don't see me ever using the PayPal service when sellers can be punished for others' crimes.

Has there been a problem with PayPal? I've been using it for about a year and love it. More newbies are bidding and wanting to use cc to pay. I've never had a problem and about 40% of my bidders use it. Very smooth operation!

I've just read that UK users are now able to transfer monies using PayPal to a checking account. I find this very useful but i'm still concerned about the way PayPal reportedly acts when a buyer is dishonest.

It's bad enough having deadbeat bidders on your auctions, never mind them having the power to screw up payment facilities and ruin things further.

If PayPal were to offer more protection, I'd probably be more tempted to offer it as an option.

I have used PayPal for over a year never had any problems till now. Now I can't even get an answer from them on what happened to a transfer to my own personal account from two weeks ago that never made it there. Due to the problems PayPal has had I waited about becoming a prefered member. I'm very disappointed in the way PayPal treats people who are not prefered members. A lot of us who are not prefered members helped to get PayPal the members they have. The auctions I have running with PayPal will remain but the new auctions I start will not offer PayPal as a payment service. I am not going to give my hard earned money away. Oh, and for those of you who have had no problems with PayPal, you are the lucky one's.

PAYPAL STINKS!!! Used it and 6 months ago they locked my account and still haven't given me a reason why. I state in all my auctions that the company is a rip-off and when a buyer asks me I tell them the truth about the way this company has treated me. Some buyers have dropped Paypal after hearing my story. I look at this as a community service to keep eBay a better place to do business. I do an honest business and answer all questions within 12 hours. Is it too much to ask that the people I do business with do the same? Regarding the statement that once you close your Paypal account you can never open another one, THANK GOD, If they would let me close the account I would never dream of doing any type of business with them again!

Wow, I was surprised to see this thread still going today!

So it looks like more people still use them, then those that don't.

PayPaldamon: The problem that I see (or hear) often is accounts being LOCKED. Then the person has no way of getting their own money out of the account and into their hands. I have never heard of any other online money co. LOCKING an account before. But I have had a good dozen or so people sat that theirs was. Why would PayPal lock an account? What situations would cause PayPal to take this kind of action? Once an account is locked, is it possible to ever get your money out? Thanks for taking notice of my thread!

Thanks to everyone!

Here is our stats:

March Payments
PayPal 70%
Checks 13%
MO's 17%

April so far:
PayPal 86%
Checks 14%
MO's 00%

We know if we did not take PayPal we would lose business.

HI goodwillhunter and luvmy2bears,

Account restrictions are rare and they will require documentation to clear up. The reasons an account can be restricted can be found in the terms of use. And, yes, the money is still in the account and the account will be unrestricted once the proper information is supplied.

Goodwillhunter,
I would need your account information to assist and my email address is [email protected]. It could be something as simple as not having the correct contact information on your account, which would be needed if there was an issue with the account.

Hi dllewis,

Sorry to hear of your issues. I am a little unclear as to what type of transaction this is. Is this a transfer to a bank account or a payment to another member. If this is a transfer issue to a bank, there could be several items impacting it and the operations team would look at it (for resolution).

I would be more than willing to assist if you contact me at [email protected].

Thanks for your patience.

As a seller, I lover PP:

80% of my payments are PP
15% check or money order
5% deadbeats

At one time, I was using Billpoint, but it was driving me crazy when I would get a deposit one day, next day another deposit, and so on. So now, I just use it for Intl transactions. I like PP because I can let the money accumulate, and then transfer it to my checking when I need it.

I don't use it, don't want it, and hate getting emails more than once asking will I take it.

Biggest reason is it is NOT instant cash, but buyers expect you to treat it as such. I ship lots of packages in the 40 to 100 lb. range, and I don't want to dip in my own pocket to pay shipping, while waiting for "real money" to hit a "real bank account".

Second reason is they (the people that run paypal) are unethical. What's up with "Allways Free", "We make our money on the float"?? Yeah, right, it was free up till they paid out enough $5.00 and $10.00 bribes to convince a whole lot of buyers it was the way to go, and then WHAM, here comes the Fees. If they had been a little more honest back when they first started (Like they could have said "Free introduction period" ) I might consider them, but I don't do business with people that lie to me.

I can let the money accumulate, and then transfer it to my checking when I need it.

...which is only slightly safer than stuffing it in your mattress.

Using PP as a quasi-savings account is foolhardy for several reasons, most important of which is that PP is not FDIC-insured.

The BBB receives floods of complaints daily (upwards of 30-40 daily, according to news accounts) from PP users who have been snagged in one way or another, from frozen accounts to PP's tendency to ignore user queries for days or even weeks.

Those who choose PP should only do so after careful development of a contingency plan. More than one seller has gone under at the hands of PP. There are far too many companies that offer online payment services to settle for PP's dismal track record, IMO.
