Oh blechh! And here I thought I was safe with Ad Aware, AdSubtract and Zone Alarm. I even had my preferences set to high security but I guess that's not enough.
Thanks Pat - I will take your advice and see if it works!

Well..it's finally stopped popping up on mine. I'm running the latest version of IE, so don't know why it's stopped but it has.
WHY do I have the awful feeling that shortly either a wooly mammoth or socking monkey is going to show up instead? Shudder.

It's popped up 3 times since my last post in this thread. I just left the last one buried under my other windows, so at least it doesn't jump over what I'm trying to work on.

FYI
I ran Ad-Aware & no spyware was detected.
I also have HistoryKill so may have lost the little bugger earlier?

AW - Yes, the stupid pop-ups are still activating on every page on AW I go to.
Thankfully POW is killing them as they launch.

I got one today too using Netscape. I looked in the cache and I think the reason the damm thing is causing so many problems is that it is an html file with no file extension. I also found the Java Script file that loads with it and calls itself a "pop_under" and declares "shown".
Try turning off Java in Netscape, but it may not help because the ad itself is an html file, sans extension. Sloppy...very sloppy.

OOooh Joy........NOT!!! Besides crashing Netscape numerous times, one is now forced to download extra software (most of which is shareware and costs!) to control SPAM from a site in which most users either pay service fees and/or are customers of Sellers who pay the fees!
C'mon AW--get with it! This is totally unnecessary to junk up this site with popups and pop-unders.
FYI, even with java script & cookies disabled on Netscape, the pop-ups and unders continue--and eventually leads to repeated rebooting and browser crashes.
I wonder how the high powers-to-be at AW justify this type of annoyance, nuisance and downright intrusion on its members---for what? The extra bucks you are now charging are not enough? Greed gets you everytime.

If I go into Preferences in Netscape 4.7 and shut off Java Script it stops the pop ups and the freezing up. I tried coming here with Netscape 6.0 and it lasted longer, but still froze up eventually.

For anyone who hasn't given up and gone to bed....
From my Wintel card running Win95 and MSIE 5.5
Go to the Tools menu...
>Internet options>security>select "internet" icon>select "custom level"> "security settings" window will pop up....
Look for items regarding "ActiveX controls"....these are tools which allow programs to be remotely installed in your computer, like software updates or plug-ins....and spy software...
Disable all...
Then look for items relating to Java....disable Java
Then look for items relating to "scripting"...
Disable "active scripting"
Disable "scripting of Java applets"
Disable "paste operations via script"
My Wintel card is a part of my CAD-CAM system and isn't hooked to the internet so I don't know exactly which items will kill the pop-ups...likely the scripting items and Java items are the important ones...
If the ads go away, then try turning things on one by one until they come back....experimenting wins the race...*G*
Don't forget to note what you did so you can undo it later....
Oh, and don't stop complaining...

I was getting ready to shut down for the night when I thought I'd try one last test. I switched back on JavaScript and came here. The pop up ad came up and locked up Netscape again. I switched off Javascript and AW came up fine. VERY ANNOYING! I guess I'll stay away for a few days until they get someone who can fix this!!!

The pop-ups aren't crashing my PC (I use IE not Netscape).
BUT: for the past week I have been getting them every single time I access AW--which is sometimes 3 or 4 times in a day.

I must really lead a charmed life, as I get two of the pop-ups with every single screen change...new message, reply, 2nd page of the message.
That's enough of AW for me. I'll just cancel my account.

I can't even check my auctions on the auction control panel without this thing popping up. I'm paying for that service, and I don't appreciate that advertisment on "my" page.

AW---it's been 9 hours since this thread started. Why are the ads still popping poop at my Netscape?? I don't want to download programs --I want you to stop them.
Tell Half.com, I won't be buying anything there anytime soon

In a few more hours, it will have been pooping for 24 hours straight. I first got hit with this pop up crap approx. 16 hours ago.
It appears all the AW techs have left for the weekend?

This is totally screwing up Netscape Browsers.
Why can't AW take the responsible action and kill it?
Can the revenue from the pop-up be that much to warrant shutting out a good portion of AW's membership?

I'm using a freeware program called "KillAd." It has a kill list for adding selected windows, or you can run it in "terminator" mode and it wipes out all popups. Go to any search engine and type in KillAd.

I changed all of my security settings in ie, it stopped the pop-ups, but then I could not access my online banking. I think if there was a choice, it would def. have to be my banking over aw. I am not going to switch the settings everytime I want to come here. This is so stupid, Half is driving off more customers with this than they are gaining.

Still getting the pop-up ad this morning at 7 AM Eastern.
I have been unable to load ANY page at Auctionwatch since yesterday. I get the pop-up and then the page hangs and won't load. I've been wondering if I'd ever get in again; very frustrating.
I got the ad and stalled again this morning and then rebooted and disabled everything I could think of and was able to get in. Glad to see this thread and know it's not just me.

Netscape - those reporting lock-up problems with netscape - I have not had that problem with Netscape 6.1. The download is available.
And the POW program is still knocking the pop-ups down.
