I bought a large lot of costume jewelry, purses and pill boxes from a woman who was cleaning out an apartment she rented and the renters dissappeared. Upon cleaning the stuff up and sorting it out I found about a dozen assorted 1" x 1" ziplock baggies in the pill boxes and purses, along with Zanax, Valium and assorted pills. I asked a friend what the baggies were, (I was guessing Cocaine or something) He said it was a type of Methanphetamine (sp?). And asked if I wanted to sell it? I told him to dispose of it as he saw fit. Apparently the former owner had quite a little habit. When I moved into my current apartment I found a large amount of pot shoved in the dead space by the dishwasher when I replaced it.
God you have to love New Orleans.
I also found a mint $20 bill from 1921 in a old patent leather purse from a tag sale.

This didn't happen to me but to my sister in law. She worked at a major airline in the lost and found department. She found $25,000 in cash in a boot.(there was only one) and the kicker (no pun intended) is that she was able to keep it!

Right after I sold a camera bag, the camera that USED to be in it came up missing. I suspect the thrilled buyer got a camera with the camera bag. It cost me $105 to replace that camera.
Not my name on ebay.

At a local thrift store, I bought a really cool velvet evening coat/cape. (kind of hard to describe, but really pretty.) It had slits for the hands and pockets inside the slits, and when I put my hand into the pocket I found a diamond wedding band and solitaire engagement ring. I called the thrift store and fortunately they remembered the donor (she'd brought in a ton of vintage clothing all at once.)
I talked them into telling me who it was so I could give the ring back in person...I have to admit I didn't say what I was calling ABOUT when I called her, so it could have really backfired, but when I handed her the rings she literally sobbed with joy. Her husband had replaced the band, but not the solitaire, and the two bands made a perfect guard for the engagement ring. Her husband (they were in their 60s) sent me flowers at work the next day. All in all, a great experience....one that more than makes up for all the ICKY tissues I fish out of pockets.
