Pop up ads are a blight, and I fear it will get worse. Sometimes the require me to reboot. I tried to look for something on Amazon.com the other day and I felt like I was swatting flys closing the popup windows. The problem with some of these 'fixes' is it cripples legitimate functions. I sent an email to Amazon.com expressing my frustration on looking for a book which I ended up finding elsewhere with less swatting.
Free sites where that is their only source of income I have a bit of empathy for. A business site like Amazon, there is no excuse for an advertising blitzkreg like that.

Oh no...not again. I haven't seen any popups here lately...maybe it's my new AdSubtract? Just checked its stats and it tells me it filtered 219 AW ads, this session. Wow.

When I was using the anti pop up ad software, it wouldn't let me load any of my games or send e-mail (my email account uses a popup for the outgoing email).
I've had 7 pop ups today coming here. I've almost froze twice.

Right now I've got 4 of the pop-up windows open. Each time I click on an AW page a new one opens. This time it's relentless and Ad Subtract isn't stopping them.

Yes, the popups are back...yet again. Wasn't there a AW mention/promise that the pop-up would only be every ten days or so?
Which reminds me of another thread a few days back...Yet another reason why Buyers HATE these 3rd party forms to complete at end of auction. Who wants to deal with this muck!?!? AW makes money off Sellers with both listing fees and FVF...isn't that enough?

??? Now my AdSubtract stats say 288 AW ads filtered...and I haven't seen any popups. It must be working, no? I'm running Netscape 4.71, if that makes a difference, somehow.

Everyone,
I'm not getting the pop under ads at all, so I can't gauge whether there's a malfunction of some kind or not. I will continue to monitor this thread so please do post if you're experiencing multiple pop unders. I'll pass the information along to the folks that need to know.

I only get them when I first log on at AW. Once I kill the initial pop up, I'm good until I leave & come back again.

I'm not getting them a hundred times a day, like last time, but I've had at least 10 of them in the last 24 hours.

Yes, I'm getting those scabby pop-ups too.
Really, what purpose do they serve? I have NEVER and will NEVER click on them. I don't even look to see what they are offering; they are automatically axed as soon as they come up (and I think most people do the same). I don't understand the mentality of those that think pop-ups will encourage people to buy their stuff.

Toke,
I'm running IE 5.0.
I don't know if it makes a difference either.
It may be that I don't accept any cookies.
In any case every time I come to AW and click on a page I get a new popup.
The number of popups=the number of AW pages I've clicked on.
The last bout with popups was bad enough, but this time it's a full size browser window!

Oh yeah! I got that full-sized one last night. How obnoxious! And they will continue to ignore the complaints, I'm sure, or pretend that it's a problem they are working on.
What I recall is that they said the popups would be occurring only once a week. It's actually more like 5 days per week. Why not just be honest??

Hmmm. I'm running Cookie Pal, too...but I accept AW cookies. Isn't it odd that some of us are getting them, and some not?
I suppose I just jinxed myself.
pattaylor...
This is probably a really stupid question...but what the heck. Are you running any blocking software? Why do you think you're not getting the popups?

toke,
No blocking software, so I really don't know why I'm not getting them. I generally get one every few days, and that's all.
I have been told that if you don't close the first one, you won't get any others during that session. OTOH, I close the ones I get and I still don't get anymore.
So, who knows?
At any rate, I'll pass this on. Thanks, everyone, for your patience.

Thanks, Pat. I'm not getting any...and haven't since that last big popup fiasco.
Wish I knew why for sure...I'd pass it along to everyone here. The only thing I can say is that I have the most recent version of AdSubtract and my old reliable Cookie Pal...and I'm running Netscape 4.71.

I only get the pop-up, and only 1,(whether I close it out our not) about every 5-7 days - it's always for half.com. I have noticed that the browser window has been getting progressivly larger. I Never got them before Auctionwatch and Ebay entered into their partnership thing. This is true from both the office and from home. MS Explorer 5.0 from work, AOL 4.0 from home. I don't think I've got any blockage on cookie-dom.
Could it be it's because I'm only registered to post and not utilizing any other AW services?
Just ponderin'.

FOR Internet Explorers!
This is caused by Java Script settings in your browsers security settings.
You can turn these off by going to your browser's TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS, then SECURITY, then CUSTOM LEVEL, then DISBALE both, SCRIPTING OF JAVA APPLETS & ACTIVE SCRIPTING. You can also make it ask for permission instead of just turning them off.
This will stop all of those popup windows. However some sites use these settings to function. Like my bank site, I have to turn them back on to use it. So far I haven't had to have them on this site, ebay, or yahoo.
To turn them back on I just click on the security tab and click default level.
Hope this helps.
Oh, I forgot to say I'm running IE 5.5

I'm using Netscape 4.7 and I'm not getting any problems with Popup ads on AW. I've gotten them, but they haven't required me to reboot nor have I been flooded with them.
A few weeks back popup ads were locking me up on AW, that seems to be fix on my end at least.

I'm getting a pop-under when I enter AW.
AdSubtract isn't stopping it, but it isn't freezing Netscape, either (I'm running 4.77).
I got AdSubtract in the first place because
of the freezing problem, both here and on eBay (where Netscape went off in search of banner ads that never loaded).

FYI, separate pop-ups, pop-offs, and pop-unders are all JavaScript functions (what IE calls "active scripting" ). There are few sites that I bother allowing JS for, and AW is not one of them. I don't know if JS is required for AW's auction upload/management service, but it definitely is not for the boards (a few, though not all, of AW -- not third-party -- cookies are needed to post on AW).
IE has both generalized and site-specific management of these options. Netscape does not, but it doesn't take as long to change the option as in IE. Opera, I don't know.

What's being done in the name of direct marketing nowadays is crazy.
The above are all just my opinions, except where I cite facts as such.
Oh, I am not dc9a320 anywhere except AW. Any others are not me.
Is eBay is changing from a world bazaar into a bizarre world?
