Go glassgrl!!
I'm still looking for that "Find Of The Century" The closes I got was a 50 cent book that sold for $50.00. (But was worth over $200.00 Old boy scout adventure book)
Let us know when the book goes up for auction.

I had the same thing happen to me recently although I had no idea of the value. I picked up a book for 50 cents and it sold for a few hundred dollars.
BTW... isn't what webrover is talking about what dealers have done since time immemorial?
My story: A year after we got married my MIL passed away (this was 1989, well before eBay). We now had three households of stuff, his/mine/hers. We consigned most of her items to an auctioneer, kept some and put the rest in the yard sale. We also had stuff from my previous home and DH had stuff that his first wife had left. One of the things his ex had left was a cookie jar that I sold for $8 - I later discovered that it was a McCoy Animal Crackers cookie jar that was worth several hundred dollars (I'll bet that was one happy garage saler!).
Was I upset? Sure! But it was my fault for not doing my research (I knew nothing about antiques and collectibles then, my education has come because of eBay).
