I will let everyone know the outcome now. They never accused me of harassing them, but I did not want to be drawn into anything with them. It turns out that her ex-husband sent the item, and they are getting a restraining order against him today. I told them that I did not wish to have any contact with them again, that I was blocking the emails, etc. My business dealings with them are done, and they can do what they wish with the item, but it would be nice if they gave it to someone who might appreciate it, such as a child, etc. They did threaten to supeona me in court if necessary, but I don't think that it will come to that. I hope that this is over now.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, and I hope to never have this situation again.

Marly

I'm glad everybody thinks it's soooo funyy! How ironic that on a board where users are typically hypersensitive about the lamest things, so many of you like to joke about something that is quite serious and sometimes deadly. This situation wreaked of a classic stalker move from post number 1. All of the misdirected suppositions were pitiful.

Intelligence is clearly NOT a prerequisite to post on AW.

I'm glad you were able to find out rather quickly what was behind this whole mess and I think you're right to try and stay out of it. Their problems are not yours, but some people will try to involve others in their problems anyway and it's so very easy to fall for it.

Good luck to you on this!

BTW, I didn't notice anyone making jokes or implying that this situation was funny.

What is strange is the frequency with which newbies register here for the apparent purpose of disrupting these forums and hurling unfounded insults.

I do apologize in advance, moderator, but I just couldn't help myself.

How in the world is sending a toy dog harrassment? Now, if they had packaged up a dead dog, that would be considered harrassment. Of if they had sent the people a weapon or something morbid.

But a toy? Classic stalker? Perhaps the stalker is a rejected Santa's Elf? Someone spurned by a woman with the last name of Deville? Maybe he tried to join the fire department and didn't pass the physical?

Are you serious?

What is strange is the frequency with which newbies register here for the apparent purpose of disrupting these forums and hurling unfounded insults.

What is even more strange is the frequency with which so-called veterans of this board like to point out how important they are because they have wasted even MORE time reading and answering posts.

Just because I state my opinion strongly, and apparently ruffle your little feathers, does not mean I came here to "start trouble".

Can you "state an opinion strongly" while "ruffling little feathers"? I don't think you should call bjgrolle's feathers little. It is a demeaning and you might make them feel bad about themselves.

Apparently not even your original post "impressed" you since you quickly changed it.

As per usual, you make comments only you understand.

I've got nothing against strong opinions.

But there is a big difference between stating something strongly and insulting other posters.

"As per usual"? You've been here for a couple weeks, and made 46 posts, and you're commenting on my posts?

If you hadn't edited your comment, my post would make more sense.

you got paid, you sent it to the address given. you should be ok. Tell them that you are sorry for the inconveince & as a token of your regret she can just keep the item as a gift. If they do not want it they can dispose of it as they wish.

Wow, I'm glad you got it resolved.

By the way webrover, I am not sure if you are aware of the "ignore" feature on AW. You might want to try it out. :0)

People are getting stranger by the minute. Politely tell the lady that you don't have time to appear in court and you will be happy to send a declaration of what transpired if they pay you for your time. You most likely will never hear from them again. They have the figurine and the mailing material which should be all they need for court. Tell her to give the dalmation to a Children's Hospital or Charity and wish her a nice life with her new husband.

Where I come from if you are sent a dead fish in the mail it means something, a dalmation does not. I don't get an negative feeling from it at all.

What the ex husband is trying to tell his ex wife is that he is not going away and he won't leave her alone.

thecritterconnection,

we deal with things like this all the time, my auction partner and I. Please give her this e-mail address and if she wants to contact us she may.

[email protected]

We help people who are being stalked or threatened.

If she goes to court about the dalmation, she won't need your appearance, just the package and the contents. If you don't wish to get involved, you don't need to. You don't have the capability to help her at this point any way. That is what we are here for

Take care.

First, I agree with seller needing to back out and drop communications about this. A subpoena is unlikely, worst might be some formal request or demand for information known about the buyer.

But right away, I had thoughts like this to explain this on-the-surface overreaction: woman divorces husband, a month or two later her beloved pet dalmatian disappears or is found dead, or poisoned mysteriously. Six months later she remarries and a few weeks later this dalmatian figurine arrives mysteriously....

I doubt they'd explain all the details in emails to the seller, but I don't think a scenario like that is impossible, and certainly *would* be threatening and scary.

Where is misscandle? All this sounds like the beginnings of a good movie plot.

(And I'm not making light of the situation. Been there..know the unsettling feeling knowing that someone's watching your every move.)

Meya,

LOL! But I WANT a badge! Do I get a single bullet w/it too!!!!
