I think it's funny that programers can't spell but they build in the spell checkers.
I was an editor before I learned to program professionally--made it easier to spot bad code, but I had to resist editing other programmers' badly spelled comments.

This is the email I got today from a winning bidder - " sorry was out of town. can pay by pay pay. or no accept?" Why would I expect this person to read through my auction where it states "NO Paypal" (or "pay pay" either) if they can't be bothered to read through their own emails. I can handle simple mistakes, but it's getting out of control.
I think that the illegible emails that are being discussed here are more an issue of pure laziness. Some people can't be bothered with capitals, spelling the whole word, or have any use for the words "the, and, to". And they REALLY can't be bothered with rereading what they have written to find any errors. It's not as much illiteracy, it's just about our society today. Remember when we had to get up to change the channels of our tv ? Or worse yet, cook dinners by scratch. How about using a pay phone instead of your cell? We are becoming slackers!

People always vote down school bond measures and the students get stupider and stupider coming out of our schools. Some day people will start to care about education in this country .... maybe.

I never thought about it being due to laziness or "tech speak," I guess we do learn it in chats, internet gaming, etc.
You have a good point.
