I won an auction (BIN) early Friday morning....waited all day for notice, got none. Saturday, nothing...today still nothing! I have a gut feeling seller knows BIN was a mistake (YES, I got a good deal!!) and is hoping I will go away. Problem is, I already used checkout and paid via Paypal! How long should I wait before I contact them? It would be nice to get notification from seller that payment was received, at least!

yumacoot,

You may wish to excersise a little patience. Ebay says contact should be made within 3 BUSINESS days. The days in the weekend are not considered business days. Many eBay sellers are away during the weekends. Wait 'till monday and you'll probably get some sort of communication from the seller.

You can do 2 things,
#1 wait with patience for them to email you

or

#2 you could send a friendly email to the seller, giving them the info that you won XXXX auction, along with your name and maling address and have paid for the auction by way of paypal.com, Please comfirm this email and that you have recieved my payment....and when can I expect item to be shiped.

As per ebay::: seller and buyer {both} have 3 days to contact each other.

He may feel since you used checkout & you paid with Paypal there is no need to contact you.
Hopefuly he will mail your item on Mon.
You may get your item before you hear from them.
Did you check your feedback?
He might have already left your's.

It's a dumb question, but it had to be asked because too many poeple wonder around with the same thought. Seriously, it's not hard to understand that it's the weekend and many sellers take the weekend off. Why assume the worst? No to mention you likely received an end of auction email automated reply from Paypal with the seller info so why should the seller duplicate the info? And if you wanted to confirm payment was received, just go to your account and see if it went through, or look at receipt paypal sends.

People make life more difficult than it needs to be.

I just recieved an email from a seller about an item I won and paid for on Wednesday morning. He is still within the 3 working days that eBay ask you to contact each other in. I think especialy this time of year it is not uncommon for sellers and bidders to run a little over that 3 days. If they set a BIN price I think they will be happy to sell it for that price.

Don't expect an answer over the weekend. Wait until Monday evening (some sellers have day jobs) and if you haven't received a response, send another polite email asking for an update. That usually does the trick.

Of course, you are all correct, I should be more patient. I guess just because I immediately let buyers know I have their money, and/or that I will be shipping on such and such day, and I guess because I am excited that I got such a good deal, I am automatically assuming the worse! I will patiently wait til tommorrow evening....

That sounds good. I just assume that everyone does business differently and expect everything to turn out ok.

Why do buyers expect an immediate response from the sellers, but when the seller (me) sends out a notice, the buyer gets upset because I ask them for a ship to address 2 times over a 7 day period. Then they bi*ch at me for harassing them. Sheees.
We do take the weekends off and do have a life outside of eBay.
The 3 day notice and the 10 day payment is just a guide, not a hard and fast rule!
I've seen one seller actually state in the auction that payment must be made within 24hrs. of auction end. Not contact, but paid!

YOU PAID WITH PAY PAL,,,,,,DO YOU KNOW THE SHIPPING AMOUNT IN ADVANCE? IF SO, DID YOU SEND THE TOTAL SHIPPING AND BID AMOUNT? I ASK THIS BECAUSE SO MANY JUMP THE GUN AND SEND NOTHING BUT THE BID AMOUNT AS IN THIS SELLERS SITUATION YOU HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THE SELLER AND SENT PAYMENT ANYWAY. JUST A THOUGHT ABOUT THE SHIPPING COST ASPECT. I GUESS IF THEY STATED THAT IN THE AUCTION I LOOK LIKE A FOOL BUT I NEVER GIVE SHIPPING AS I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE IN THE WORLD THE WIDGET IS GOING UNTIL I GET AN ADDRESS.

Yes, I had the shipping amount, and the insurance amount. In fact, I used checkout. Maybe she figures she doesnt need to contact me. Okay, I will wait...

I'd be more worried in a few days when your item does not arrive.

Also, I NEVER make payment until I get an actual email from a seller.

Sort of on topic here.. I'd have to say about 90% of sellers I have dealt with, never email me to tell me when they ship my item. If they do... it's vague like I'll ship next week or in a few days.

TWO, THREE, EXCEPTIONS,,,,,,WHEN THEY USE PAY PAL. WHEN IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PURCHASE, TO SET THIER MIND AT EASE AND WHEN IT HAS NOT GONE WELL, PERFECT. OTHER THAN THAT, THE CHECK ARRIVES, I LICK AND STICK AND OUT THE DOOR. JUST TOO MANY DEALS GOING TO BE THAT PERSONAL TO EVERY SNAIL MAIL THAT ARRIVES IN THE MAIL BOX. OH! AND WHEN THEY SAY PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU SHIP IT. I KNOW THIS IS JUST OUT OF FEAR OF THEM GETTING RIPPED OFF. SO, I DO. I HATE KEEPING THOSE REQUESTS IN THE BACK OF MY MIND BUT SOMEHOW I DO. CUSTOMER SERVICE. LUCKILY WITH MY FEED BACK I APPEAR AND AM HONEST. NOT MANY TIMES DO I GET THE LET ME KNOW REQUEST. GREAT!

There are a lot of people that do not understand what a business day is. There are a lot of sellers that do take the weekend off.

Nearing the end of BUSINESS day 4....still no contact. No response to request for payment receipt confirmation, nothing. So, do I now wait and hope it ships anyway? Or do I start proceedings with Ebay and/or Paypal to file complaint?

Wait a few more days as this is vacation time. Although it is uncool to conduct auctions while on vacation some of the sellers I have won auctions from have done so. Out of 800+ auctions I have won I don't remember one case where the seller eventually did not get in touch with me. What is this seller's feedback rating?

Did your P/P go through, was it completed? If so contact the seller again. Be courteous & simply say you are concerned as to when he will be shipping. If the payment went through, he already has your confirmed address. Peronally,I send a notice of receipt of payment & when I will be shipping. I have the time to do this. I am not a power seller & never intend to be.

Although it is uncool to conduct auctions
*******************

Why is that? I do it all the time. I still get in touch within 3 business days(however when I'm the buyer, I always assume people are on vacation, if I don't hear within 3 business days). Many times people set up their AW to start several days before they will be home from vacation...or to end a coule of days earlier than the end of a vacation.

Never ever send payment until you receive an e-mail from the seller. When you do, you set yourself up for trouble. How do you know where this person is? Personally, I put my location in, but many sellers put in other locations to try and boost sales. Or some other bogus comment for the location. If you wait for their e-mail, at least then you have some info and personal service from the seller. As a seller, I hate checkout. I receive payments sent to the wrong account frequently and have to have the buyer resend it to the proper account. I have not even set up checkout. People will send money to an e-mail address they assume is for my PayPal account when it is not. Buyers need to wait for the WBN. That is the bottom line. Make the seller do their job and give you customer service. You are paying for it, make them give it.

dmrick- I am talking about those who end an auction when they will still be on vacation for 4 days to 2 weeks and not be online. You sound like a responsible seller, many are not.

I only used checkout to give seller my shipping details. The choice was listed there on how to pay, and PAYPAL was included. So, I went to Paypal and paid her. (him?) I received the checkout notice from ebay, I assume. I have contacted her/him 4 times (politely) over the past four BUSINESS days, and she/he has yet to respond. He/she has about 20 other auctions running, her/his feedback is 19, all positive(so I assume she/he is new) I am not contacting them again. I will wait a few more days, maybe a week to see if item arrives. When (IF) it does, I will leave appropriate feedback. If it does not, I will file fraud complaint with both Paypal, and Ebay, and maybe the fraud.com whatever it is that Ebay refers to. I bet that will get her/his attention. I will probably have to kiss my money goodbye (yes, it was completed, and they are a verified seller)

"I will file fraud complaint with both Paypal, and Ebay, and maybe the fraud.com whatever it is that Ebay refers to. I bet that will get her/his attention."

If you did that to me I'd neg you for filing false fraud charges, and I'd cancel your sale. That would get your attention!

I had a buyer neg me and file fraud charges after just five days. Paypal froze my money, so I stopped taking Paypal for a month after the complaint was satisfied. Cost Paypal a lot of money, plus I took all my money out of Paypal and never leave money in there since that incident.

False fraud charges are also illegal so the seller could file legal charges against you unless you have proof the seller meant to deceive you, which you have no case because sellers have 30 days to send item or give you an option to cancel sale.

If shopping on ebay is that scary for you, you need to adapt rather than have sellers adapt to you. You sound like you can be very manipulative, so how can you expect people to treat you with respect if you disrepect them?

quickdraw29: Boy are you up in the night! I didn't say I would file fraud charges today, now, did I? And if you take my money, then dont ship, or at least let me know why you havent, and I never hear from you again, and dont get my money back....sorry to inform you that IS fraud! And it would be legal for me to file charges against you for internet fraud. And if you take 30 days to ship your items, shame on you! Please remind me never to bid on your items. And, I am not afraid of receiving a stinking neg if I deserve one! I have been selling and buying from EBAY for almost 4 years, so it's not like I don't know what I am doing. It's too bad people like you have to jump down people's throats so often. For everyone else's information, I finally heard from the seller, and the item has been shipped.

yumacoot don't turn yourself inside out with this. I am a responsible seller and last fall a family member died suddenly leaving a 13 year old on the other side of the country. I dropped everything a flew to New York five days after 911. It took nearly a month to get back on line and explain to my customers. I got two negs from buyers like yourself that don't seem to understand that "life happens" people get sick, they get stuck or murphy's law kicks in, and the biggest problem..... COMPUTERS BREAK DOWN....
Any seller worth his salt is going to follow through.... check his rating that will give you a good idea what to expect.

greengate: You are right. Things do happen, and I understand that. I know I came across as wanting to know NOW why she hadnt responded. I also realize I need to have more patience. It's just that I have gotten stung before, so naturally assumed I would again. I know now not to Paypal until WBN from SELLER is received. Lesson learned. I would not have proceeded with any type of complaints or proceedings until I was POSITIVE that I had been stung, but you only have so many days after EOA to file complaint, so I would have waited those many days, then proceeded. tomwii: whatever.....I am not as bad as you might think. I was just posting for comments or suggestions, not to stir everyone up. Next time I will watch what I say and how I say it. I am not as manipulating and mean as some of you might think, either....

I guess I'm the Tonto to Yumacoot's Lone Ranger. I'd be upset with this seller, too.

If a seller puts a BIN price on their auctions, they should expect that a buyer wants to BUY IT NOW...not five days later. Not communicating with a paying customer is unprofessional and unacceptable in my book. I just went ten rounds with a powerseller who wouldn't acknowledge my payment, who shipped 11 days after my PayPal payment was made, then finally sent me an email which LIED about the ship date. Like I can't read the postage mark? HELLO!

A simple "Payment was received; item will be shipped shortly" email would have alleviated Yumacoot's anxiety and turned this into a positive buying experience. Anyone TOO BUSY to do that simple thing needs to rethink their processes or get some help. Crappy customer service hurts EVERY SELLER on eBay. Things are bad enough without making people mad on purpose.
