Anyone else try out Vendio's new look? Just curious. I'm not sure I like it. The blue is far too bright! My screen looked like it was jumping out at me. Not good for those of us in bifocals - LOL!

I love the clean look, speed & easy navigation.

Unfortunately, I prefer to use Opera6 and there are many page layout issues to be solved before it's usable.

I noticed the same thing, too bright. What's wrong with the way it is now, it looks to me like it has everything that it does now only it's all just moved around.....and what is that green thing in their logo it looks like the front of a g-string to me.

I must be missing something. Where is the new look? I haven't noticed anything.

I agree that the blue is a bit too bright.

Lol @ the g-string comment, Yellowstone. Thanks, now I'll see that everytime I look at it!

Great... do you know how many vendio logos we have around the office? I'm going to be seeing g-strings all day.

I just wanted to let everyone know that we're listening to everyone concerning this beta site, so please keep the discussions going. The site is hooked up to all the same databases as the www.vendio.com site, so please use it as you would the normal site.

gaugagaug, we're of course trying to support as many browsers as we can. Opera 6 had some problems with CSS DOM support, but these issues have largely been corrected in version 7 (released in January of '03). The current version is 7.54. Have you checked out this more recent version?

I like the new look and feel. It is faster, less annoying.

I miss the "manage Images" link on the new version. If they would add that I would have no complaints.

Pirateboy:

I have tried several revisions of Opera7 but so far they all actually seem worse on many of the Ebay pages.

Maybe I'll give 7.x another try.

I'll also look at Firefox, if it has a tabbed interface

gaugagaug, Chuck showed me your email with the screenshots. I know what's happening and why it's happening, but fixing it would mean introducing rendering problems for all other browsers (including Opera 7.0).

iareateacher, agreed. Firefox is getting more and more interesting. I love how straightforward it is, and how fast it renders.

I just made some fixes on my staging environment to relax the bright blue a little bit. It should be on the beta site sometime tomorrow.

Keep the ideas coming, and thank you for all the input so far.

I've been using the beta version since it started. Can't remember which day. I like the new look and find it easy to work with. But I'm one who likes to change things up every now and then.

I suppose we can all learn to live with the new look, but what's the hurry? Why do what Ebay keeps doing to us all? Bored, folks? Our lives are FULL of changes all around us; one of the things I value about Vendio is that it's a reliable constant element in my life.

I too will want "manage images," not just "image hosting." And I greatly prefer the tabs across the top rather than down the left side. Why change that, anyway?

Gaugagaug...I have Opera 7.11, and it cuts through the beta site like a hot knife through butter. Twice as fast as IE could ever do on a good day. Looks exactly the same as IE after the page is loaded. The only difference you will notice, other than the speed, is Opera won't lock up, get lost, or crash on you. Also, it's much easier to follow your image upload progress with the counter at the bottom of the page. That was my main objection to V6 in that the infobar never worked for me during image upload.

Roadsmith, there were two main reasons that we moved the tabs from the top of the site to the side.

First, with tabs laid out horizontally across the top of the site, it's easy to run out of room. On the current site, we don't even have tabs for Gallery or WebHosting because they can't fit. We also didn't want to get into the game of shrinking tabs in order to squeeze more in.

The second reason is that we wanted to consolidate the different areas of navigation. The current site has a row of tabs, followed by a row of second-level navigaton (Manage Images, Track Other Listings, etc), then a row of third-level navigation (Education Center, Help, etc), and then a side bar full of navigation. We realized that it would be easier for new users to learn the site, and faster for current users if all the navigation was located in one area. Also, by removing a lot of the stuff from the top of the page, you won't have to scroll down as much.

Alright, I'm hitting the sack. G'night.

Image Hosting vs. Manage Images

With it said, above, that some of us utilize 'manage images' to do up our listings, I have often wondered why vendio has both of those, since they essentially provide the same function ... but with manage images, we can get 2 columns showing on one page and that's what I like about it.

and inre saying we NEED the venue (ebay, amazon, vendio store,..) icon for create a listing right ON the newly uploaded images page, (like on your non-beta version), I *did* just find where the quick create-ebay-listing link is ... it is in upper right hand corner pull-down menu of "Jump to"

I'm now trying Opera 7.5.1 which does seem to work much better for me than previous versions of Opera7 did. And it works much better with this new version of Vendio.
The problem with saving Global Preferences has gone away with Opera7.

I for one LOVE the idea that the need for scrolling has been greatly reduced, and the amount of screen real estate used for Vendio-stuff has been reduced.

Pirateboy:
Two problems that I see with Opera7:
1. I do not have the Flyout menus at all. On Oper6 I at least saw the triagle even though it didn't work. On Opera7 I don't even see the triangle. There must be some way to make cascading menus work???

2. I am getting a VERY TALL window when I refresh Sales Manager, with LOTS of blank space. I just took a screen shot and the image is 1022x6861 !!!

Some great points about Manage Images! I used that feature all the time. My main complaint will remain the blue color. Right now it is killing my eyes. I thought I'd check it out again this morning, but the effect is still the same. It's far, far too bright!! It's like staring into the sun. The old blue color was far better!

Other than that, I think the new look is okay. However, between eBay and Vendio, who can keep up with the changes? Remember, most of us aren't teenagers and it takes us longer to adjust to change!

Edited to add: Teacher, I tried downloading firefox, but when I get to the point where I'm importing my favorites and such from Internet Explorer I get an error asking me for a disk.

The new one is fine.. the old one was fine (though I still have to do too much right-left scrolling in post-sale to like either one). What I'd REALLY like to see are some changes of SUBSTANCE and not COSMETIC. I don't think Vendio is the leader it once was in the auction listing service provider industry anymore. But I am here for the longhaul (have too many store listings using Vendio templates to leave and I really do LIKE Vendio) and am TRYING to be patient!

We've made some changes overnight to the beta site:

1. The bright blue links are now more subdued. They're actually now the exact same colour as eBay and Google's links.

2. We've added a "create listing" widget to the successful image upload pages. Previously, there was no clear way to go from these pages straight into creating a listing.

gaugagaug, glad to hear that Opera 7 is working a bit better. The flyout menus are only supported by Internet Explorer. We wanted to get them working for all browsers, but to make a long, long story short, we weren't able to. Hopefully in the future. Also, I'm not sure why the screenshot would come out so big. We're still finding a few bizarre-o rendering problems with Opera 7.

neglus, there actually is great substance to this release. We now have the ability to expand our top-level navigation without forcing anyone to scroll sideways, we now have dynamic flyout menus for faster navigation to parts of the site, we've hopefully made things easier to find for new users, etc. This is the foundation that we need to be able to take things to the next level. Thank you for hanging in there so long with us.

I just uploaded some pics and got the page showing them when it was done but... Now I have to either Jump to upload images again or go to Image Hosting and then Upload. Liked it better where the images that were uploaded showed and then below them more Browse boxes. Made it easier so that I could remember which pics I had just uploaded. (I am on dial up and have found that uploading about 9 at a time is the best to keep from having problems)

I whole-heartedly agree Kev ... and that was under the "manage images" format for the present version ...

I have another REALLY big favor for Vendio's Suggestion Box ... that is Scheduling ... 1 or 2 minutes apart for auctions would be awesome and fruitful. (instead of the 15 mins. now offered) ... why, you ask? ... because we could set up our auctions to run just about like a LIVE auction that way ... I think it would be awesome.

Auction granularity is limited to 15 minutes on Vendio? Are you serious? eBay's own scheduling will let you schedule auctions as close together as 1 minute.

For a FEE you can schedule them. If it is working.

There's a fee, but Vendio charges a fee to use its service as well.

It has always worked for me and I've been using it since they introduced it.

I don't believe in paying for more auction services than you need.

Hi iareateacher,

Just a quick heads up that we'll be soon providing you the ability to select the time you would like the item to launch to the minute along with the ability to schedule any time up to 10 years in advance (no extra charges as always to schedule in Sales Manager). This feature is built and in QA now, and it's just one of several new upgrades coming in the next few weeks.

Best,
Mike.

Hi Mike,

That's wonderful!

Scheduling auctions to launch at smaller than 15 minute intervals will be super. I've always thought a 5 minute interval would be good for mine.

Thanks!

Lucy
