I think that at this point, with the 1..2...3 punch of the hurricanes, Floridians have the same mentality that other areas have faced when there's a serial killer out there.

Me be none too happy about it either! GG has probably spent the day cutting down all those tall pine trees around her house, lol.
Friends called to say there is NO plywood left at Home Depot. I don't care. I'll wait til Monday and if it still looks like it is going to be above a level 3 and roling into Panama City I will be spending the night between KY and TN.
Insurance deductible on hurricanes is 2K. After going thru this before, Ivan can buy me all the new furniture he wants.

ltray,
That's right. I had forgotton you were in the panhandle also. This thing keeps shifting a little further west with each update. If it's any consolation, I'm using all the voodoo I know to try to keep it away from Florida. Like I told Ladyjewells2000, Florida has had enough for awhile. However I have a NPB in Louisiana that deserves a good dousing

ltray, Compare the 11:00 p.m. updated map on page one of this thread with the 5:00 p.m. map on this page. Looks like it's moving west. The following chart shows the probabilities of a hit, compliments of the bookies at NWS:

Sparkz, I was using my vodoo to just make the storm wilt and run into the Yucatan, but then you decided it needed to go to Louisiana. Let's hope you don't gotz better mojo than me. Just make sure that dang thing keeps going west! But then if it must come north, just 100 miles east of us is an area with low population and thousands of acres of pines trees which would be a much better path for most everyone.

ltray,
Actually, I have a selfish motive for wanting it to turn toward La or even Texas. If the path kept true, it would come over Tex, N.M. Az. and Nevada and fizzle out in the center of California, where 5 or 6 inches of water would be welcomed with open arms. It's been so long since we got rain here, most everyone has forgotten what a cloud looks like. Too bad there isn't a way to channel some of the water your hurricanes have toward the west where it is needed. Anyway, here's hopeing you and Glassgrl dodge the bullet on Ivan.

Gtootie...Not really wishing anything more than a light shower on you I'm just hoping the folks in the gulf coast states will keep an eye on the map I posted on page one and the chart I posted just above and take appropriate action to protect their property and their lives. This is a category 5 storm which will result in many deaths and much destruction. And it will make landfall in the U.S.

tomwiii - we really love you and Ralphie but your sig line is getting out of hand. Save it for people who care....like the RT.
I just don't see this thing turning north, but here at the beach today, everybody has boarded up. they are actually building subdivisions now that hurrican shutters (corrugated metal bolt on) come with the house!
I love it when they say it's dead on. That means it never comes here.
I agree 100% -- that's why from now on, my sig line will ONLY consist of DIRECT QUOTES!
With folks starting demeaning threads insulting politician's families, and with ALL the right-wing sig-lines that float here, I see no reason to remove my little PRESIDENTIAL QUOTES, which are devoid of editorial comment what-so-ever.

Glassgrl, ltray & Ralphie...The 11:00 update looks even better. Looks like the forcasters are thinking WEST. The NWS bookies are now showing Texas as a possible landfall.

Sparkz,
Just how mad ARE you at the NPB in Louisiana??? <g>
The scarey thing about the current projection is its similarity to Opal. Opal came inland on the exact projected path of Ivan and destroyed everything from Pensacola to Port St. Joe. Roughly 150 miles of coast, and Opal was only a 3. So we all need to band together and send cold air and water to Ivan and snuff his lil butt out before he can do anymore damage.
posted on September 12, 2004 11:35:27 PM new
ltray..If Amber or one of the other Canadians could send a blast of cold air down your way, that would be great. If a low pressure system develops in the midwest, which NWS is thinking might happen, this thing could suddenly head west. If that happens, the area between New Orleans and Galveston would be the new target. I still like the idea of cold air snuffing his butt. That would make everyone happy.

I, for one, love your sig line! Keep 'em coming.
My sig line is just as politically motivated as tomwiii's and Ralphie's only it's more subtle. Just because some think they are political and don't like them, doesn't mean we have to (or should) remove them.
I'm not 100% where Port Charlotte is on this map, but does it look like Ivan is headed toward there?

Better watch it glassgrl. I said the same thing and got accused of being the Pecos Bill Board Police. Tom and some of the others just don't get it. This board just is not for that kind of stuff.
Long Ranger, Pecos Bill, Board Police.
Course here in East Texas, I'm closer to B'ham, Alabama than I am to the Pecos in Texas. It's a big state. But Tom is geographically challenged, I guess.

ETB, Ahhhh East Texas... Long View, Tyler Roses, pines trees and rolling hills. A bee-u-t-ful place to be!
Yup Tomii, the only thing with spurs in East Texas are those gorgeous Tyler roses.

Thanks, Itray. Come on to the Texas Rose Festival in Tyler in October. It's beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the Spring Azalea Trails. It's sure not like West Texas is it! Bill
Edited to read "Itray, did you know that they are building the Home and Garden TV dream home for 2005 on Lake Tyler. What a place that is going to be. And to keep this on topic, there are no hurricanes (just a few tornados).

Didn't know about the H&G house, I'll have to go get my entry in. I used to travel to Tyler for work and thought it was a lovely town. I always came home with a car full of $1/dozen roses. Hubby used to laugh and say " I know where you've been today".
Guess they aren't $1/dozen anymore?
I could stand a tornado or 2 for the chance to live in Tyler on the lake.
posted on September 13, 2004 10:23:05 AM new
Nope, they are $2.00/dozen now.
Go to HGTV's web site and look at the videos and pics on the 2005 Dream Home. This house is going to be the best yet. Also a free speed boat and Mini Lido vehicle will be included in the 1.3 million dollar house. Course, like all the winners, I would have to sell to pay the taxes, but oh what I could buy with that money.
And there hasn't been a tornado in Tyler since the early 50's. There have been some pretty close but not in the city limits.

Just killed my Ebay auctions. They are not much anyway. Don't want to deal with them with Ivan taking aim at me (Live in Pensacola). As the truckers say see you all on the flip flop.

Hi all,
A lot of our EO friends are in Florida. Niel35, Glassgrl, Dacreson, DrDolittle, Bizzycrocheting, Lattefor2, Cheryl's Dad, Lovetosell, Tomwiii and Gtootie is nearby in Louisiana. And, of course, our EO Mascot - Ralphie!
I hope they keep us posted. My grandchildren and a nephew are in Pensacola. They had to evacuate to Jax during Opal.
Edited to add: Oops, Ltray, sorry I missed you.

Well, its official! Bay county has just issued evacuation orders for level 1,2 and 3 areas. That is coastal areas, low-lying areas and mobile homes.

Me-n-Ralphie here in JAX were very lucky so far -- not even losing electricity!
But that one SUNDAY night was enuf to last us for the next 20 years...
Now we have our emergency plans all worked out -- he looks so cute in his little CD doughboy helmet
