Last I looked it was the year 2001, right?
And yet in my local paper recently the head-line went something like this:
"Cock Fighting: Is It Evil Or Just A Way To Bring Families Together?"
I couldn't bring myself to read the story.
I can't believe the question was raised in the first place, that such things are still going on in the year 2001 in a civilized (? debateable) part of the world. And if the argument is actually that it brings families together, I can think of at least 1 or 2 other activities for families to participate in where animals aren't on hand to rip them selves apart for the amusement of the...families that were brought together to watch.

I was just watching "Wild Rescues" on the Animal Channel.
Another chilling, sad story.
An animal rescue team was called by a lady who lived next to a trailer. The person who had lived in this trailer abandoned it and left all her animals inside.
The neighbor had kicked down the door and the animals fled "their prison". There were all cats and dogs.
When the showed the inside of the house - it was horrendous. They were so hungry they were eating anything they could find.
The part that just made me lose it was when they showed the windows. The screens were all torn - from these animals looking outside the windows trying to escape. But they couldn't get past the glass windows. This just broke my heart. I guess they all were alive but in very poor condition. One of the dogs had a choke collar on and it got caught by a nail in the wall and couldn't move from that spot until it was rescued - and I'm not sure how long that was.
They found the woman who owned this trailer. They said it would cost so much to prosecute her, it's likely no charges will be filed.
I'm just sick.
Edited to add: I forgot to mention - the reason she had all these animals was because she was breeding them to sell at flea markets.

I can't believe your local paper could print something so stupid!!! I would definitely call and complain. What idiots!

There is a pressing need for a new prosecutor if the current one only looks at the economic cost of the woman's actions.
If she had abused her children would it have been "too expensive"?
How much is his/her job "worth"?
